YOU may not have heard about Infinix yet, but the Hong Kong-based smartphone brand is certainly well aware of the Filipinos’ appetite for devices in the “good but cheap” category. It’s common knowledge in the Philipppines that price has been, is, and will, in the foreseeable future, be king.

And just in time for the holidays, Infinix has released not one, or two, but three new smartphones that belong in the bargain basement, the most expensive of which, the Infinix Note 3 Pro, costs P8,490. Not bad for an octa-core handset with a sizable display and battery. The Infinix Hot 4 Pro and Hot S, meanwhile, are priced at an even lower P5,990 and P6,990, respectively. Note that all three include high-res screens; fingerprint readers; 4G LTE connectivity; and a custom Android Marshmallow implementation on their feature sets.

The entry-level Infinix Hot 4 Pro sports a 5.5-inch display of the 720p kind and a quad-core MT6580 system-on-a-chip from MediaTek, alongside 2GB of RAM and just 16GB of storage (albeit expandable up to an additional 128GB). A 5-megapixel camera with front-facing flash shoots selfies, while an 8-megapixel unit takes care of the rest of your picture-taking needs. A 4,000mAh battery runs the show and is said to deliver 48 hours of battery life. Given the modest specifications, and with modest usage (think social media, light gaming, the occasional web browsing, and other basic tasks), we’re inclined to believe the Hot 4 could last past the first day.

The Infinix Hot S won’t likely win an endurance contest, but perhaps it doesn’t need to. Its best trick hinges on a pair of cameras: 8 megapixels for the front sensor and 13 megapixels for the back. Both are fitted with LED flash units and have a larger pixel size (1.4µm pixels) for snapping “clear and vibrant photos” in the dark. As for the rest of the package, expect an octa-core MT6753 processor with 3GB of RAM, the same configuration found in most new Cherry Mobile Flare phones; 16GB of storage; a 5.2-inch 720p display; and a 3,000mAh battery that tops up quickly.

Last but not least is the curiously named Infinix Note 3 Pro, which sounds like a step back compared to the Hot S and Hot 4, but really isn’t. In fact, it’s the most souped-up of the trio, flaunting a sleek, unibody metal design; a 6-inch screen at full resolution; 13- and 5-megapixel rear and front cameras (again, both with LED flash); and the same innards as the Infinix Hot S. It also has a 4,500mAh battery that promises “more than two days” of uninterrupted use. Better yet, the Note 3 Pro supports fast charging and could be charged from empty in 99 minutes — or about the same time it takes most of us to shower and dress in the morning.

Take note that all three phones, which are already available on Lazada Philippines, come with just one month of warranty.
