The Firefly Mobile Intense 5 isn’t your typical entry-level phone

IT’S amazing how the prices of smartphones have considerably gone down in the past couple of years. These days, even if you only have a couple of thousand pesos, you can already buy a decent handset. Case in point: the Firefly Mobile Intense 5 (click for complete specs).

Unveiled just today, the device sells for only P2,999 or approximately $60. For some people, that means forgoing buying, say, around 20 cups of coffee — the same amount they probably bought in exchange for a coffee-shop planner last Christmas.

Don’t expect the Firefly Mobile Intense 5 to come with high-end features. The 5-inch LCD screen only has a resolution of 960 x 540. The RAM is just 1GB. You’ll merely have 8GB of internal storage, though you have the option to extend the memory up to 32GB via a microSD card. And you’ll have to make do with 3G HSPA connection.

Those are par for the course given the phone’s price. But take a look at this beauty. You won’t be ashamed to use it in public.

The Intense 5 also features a 2,100mAh battery, 8- and 5-megapixel rear and front cameras, dual-SIM slots, and fortunately, Android 6.0 Marshmallow. We just don’t know exactly what its chipset is. Firefly Mobile only states a certain 32-bit quad-core processor. We doubt it’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon, so we’re putting our money on a MediaTek chipset.

If you have already bought one, do tell us if it works decently in the comments below.
