CMF, the sub-brand from tech company Nothing, has unveiled its first smartphone for the global market — the CMF Phone 1.

Debuting alongside the CMF Buds Pro 2 wireless earphones and CMF Watch Pro 2 smartwatch, the Phone 1 takes center stage with a unique design twist and a starting price tag of P17,490 in the Philippines, ₹15,999 in India, €239 in Europe, and $199 in the United States.

Channeling Nothing’s aesthetic, the CMF Phone 1 boasts a modular back-cover system. This lets users swap out back panels for different colors and textures, offering a touch of customization.

But the quirkiness doesn’t stop there. The handset supports a range of attachable accessories, including a lanyard cable, a kickstand, and even a wallet that snaps onto the back via a rotatable dial and screws. You also get an IP52 rating for water and dust resistance.

Under the hood, the CMF Phone 1 is powered by the midrange MediaTek Dimensity 7300 5G processor, paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Surprisingly, expandable storage is an option via a microSD card slot, allowing for up to a massive 2TB of extra capacity.

The display is a decent 6.67-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a respectable 2,000 nits peak brightness. An under-display fingerprint sensor, meanwhile, provides secure authentication.

The camera system keeps things simple: A 50-megapixel main sensor with image stabilization handles the heavy lifting, while a secondary 2-megapixel sensor likely acts as a depth helper for portrait mode. Selfie duties are handled by a 16-megapixel front-facing camera.

You get a 5,000mAh battery with support for 33-watt fast charging. CMF claims the phone can reach 50% charge in just 20 minutes. There’s also reverse wired charging up to 5 watts for juicing up your friends’ devices on the go. Battery health is a focus as well, with CMF touting a Battery Health Technology to extend the lifespan of the smartphone’s power source.

On the software side, the CMF Phone 1 runs a near-stock version of Android 14 wrapped in Nothing OS 2.6. While two major Android updates are promised, the commitment to just three years of security patches feels a bit short compared to most competitors that offer longer support windows.
