TECNO is gearing up to launch its SPARK 40 series globally in July, and the headline feature appears to be a significant step up in performance for the budget-friendly lineup. You see, the series will be spearheaded by the TECNO SPARK 40 Pro Plus, which is confirmed as the first smartphone internationally to arrive with the freshly announced MediaTek Helio G200 chipset.

This new processor from MediaTek is built on a 6nm process and boasts an octa-core CPU configuration, featuring two Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz. The Taiwanese chip manufacturer is touting a more than 10% performance increase compared to its predecessor, the Helio G100, which should translate to a faster user experience, quicker app launches, and generally smoother multitasking on the SPARK 40 Pro Plus. Benchmark numbers leaked thus far place the Helio G200 around the 470,000 mark on AnTuTu, reinforcing that claimed performance bump.

The launch announcement

Beyond raw processing power, the Helio G200 also brings an upgraded ARM Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, now running at 1.1GHz. This roughly 10% improvement in single-core graphics performance suggests better handling of games and multimedia content.

TECNO isn’t just relying on the new chip for an improved experience. The Transsion Holdings brand is also highlighting the SPARK 40 Pro Plus’ ability to deliver 1.5K super-resolution rendering, a feature it claims is the most robust visual setup at this price point. This, coupled with TECNO’s own optimization algorithms, aims to provide sharper and more vibrant visuals, potentially making video consumption and gaming more immersive on the device.

Connectivity is also seeing attention with the MediaTek Helio G200 incorporating Dynamic Communication Smart Adaptive Response or DCSAR technology. This feature is designed to enhance network efficiency, particularly in areas with weaker signals, promising more stable connections for streaming, calls, and online gaming.

While TECNO has confirmed the SPARK 40 Pro Plus will spearhead the series, details on the other models in the SPARK 40 lineup remain under wraps for now. However, it’s expected the series will include a standard TECNO SPARK 40 and a TECNO Spark 40 Pro, likely with varying specifications to cater to different price points. The company has indicated the series will feature a slim design and integrate TECNO’s AI features, with more information on these aspects expected closer to the July global launch. Hopefully, we’ll hear about a release for the Philippine market by then, too.
