vivo‘s latest smartphone in the Philippines is built for the long haul. It focuses on raw battery endurance and durability, engineered as a reliable daily driver.
Priced at P8,999 (roughly $161) for the 8GB/128GB variant and P10,999 ($197) for the 8GB/256GB model, the newly launched vivo Y29’s main draw is its huge 6,500mAh BlueVolt battery.
In a market often fixated on fast charging, the company is betting on longevity here. While 44-watt FlashCharge technology will get you to 50% in a little over 40 minutes, the real headline is the claim of 80% battery capacity retention after five years of use. If that holds true, it’s a significant value proposition in a world of rapidly degrading lithium-ion cells.

vivo announces the release of the Y29 in the Philippines
Beyond the battery, the vivo Y29 is pitching itself as a robust daily driver. vivo has outfitted it with a “Comprehensive Cushioning Structure” and SCHOTT Shield Glass, which it claims offers 64% better drop resistance than standard glass. The phone has even earned SGS Five-Star Drop Resistance and Military Grade Certification, along with an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance. It’s certainly a departure from the usual delicate handset, indicating vivo is targeting users who need a device that can take a beating.
Powering the Y29 is a 6nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 4G processor. This isn’t a performance beast by any stretch, but it’s a capable chip for daily tasks and should be efficient enough given the massive battery. The display is a 6.68-inch flat LCD with an HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. While an LCD at this resolution isn’t going to win any awards for visual fidelity, the 120Hz refresh rate should make for a smoother scrolling experience, and 1,000 nits of peak brightness is respectable for outdoor visibility. Audio gets a boost, too, with dual stereo speakers capable of amplifying sound up to 400%.
