Infinix GT 30 Pro first impressions: All-day 120 FPS gaming champ on a budget?

After its global debut, the latest iteration of Infinix‘s well-received gaming-flagship line is finally making its way to the Philippines.

The Infinix GT 30 Pro officially launches on June 22, with availability scheduled for June 23 through the brand’s local e-commerce partners, as well as retailers nationwide. Expect discounted launch prices bundled with exclusive freebies right out of the gate. As a testament to its gaming prowess, Infinix has announced the GT 30 Pro as the official tournament phone of the upcoming Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Philippines Season 16.

We have the Infinix GT 30 Pro in hand, and here are our initial impressions.

Light ’em up

Let’s kick things off with the eye test. Right off the bat, Infinix has given its latest gaming-focused flagship a significant redesign. Gone are the sharp, angular lines of the GT 20 Pro; instead, the GT 30 Pro embraces smoother, more rounded edges. The AMOLED display, however, remains unapologetically flat. While it retains the same size and impressive 144Hz refresh rate as its predecessor, Infinix has upped the ante a little with a sharper 1.5K resolution — a noticeable jump from the previous generation’s FHD+. It’s also significantly brighter, with the company claiming a 4,500 nits of peak brightness. So, yes, you can comfortably game outdoors, even under direct sunlight, without much of an issue.

You’ll find the Infinix GT 30 Pro available in a variety of color options and configurations. Our review unit, the top-of-the-line setup with 12GB of physical RAM and 512GB of internal storage, arrived in the subtle Shadow Ash colorway. Visually, this variant has a less aggressive exterior, though that signature mecha-inspired aesthetic Infinix has championed for years is still undeniably present. Those distinctive white LEDs (or red, if you opt for the Dark Flare variant) still trace the backplate’s center and offer a range of customizable lighting options. And while firing up these LED arrays will, of course, draw more power, our initial tests showed no significant impact on battery life.

Thankfully, the rear camera module has shrunk down from its predecessor’s unnecessarily large footprint. Better yet, you now get a truly usable secondary ultrawide camera — a welcome addition that expands your photography and videography options. And despite clocking in at nearly 190 grams, the phone feels surprisingly light in hand. That said, its expansive 6.78-inch screen makes true one-handed operation a bit of a stretch.

Perhaps the most significant — and certainly most welcome — hardware upgrade here is the inclusion of capacitive left and right shoulder triggers. This isn’t something you will typically find on a smartphone at this price point. With these triggers, executing in-game commands becomes more fluid. They’re highly customizable, too, letting you fine-tune everything from sensitivity, so that even the lightest tap translates to an instant response.

Certainly the most welcome hardware upgrade here is the inclusion of capacitive left and right shoulder triggers

In MOBAs like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, for instance, these triggers become quite invaluable. You can map them to instantly bring up the map or activate crucial item abilities, such as the Winter Crown’s frozen ability, which grants you two seconds of invulnerability — a potential lifesaver in the thick of a teamfight. For FPS titles like PUBG Mobile and Delta Force, assigning scope-in or reload functions to the triggers means you keep your thumbs on the move, freeing up screen real estate. And if a game supports leaning or peeking while scoped, dedicating a trigger to that can provide a significant competitive edge.

Beyond simple actions, you can even assign quick macros to these capacitive shoulder buttons, effectively simulating complex multi-finger controls. Think seamlessly scoping in, crouching, and executing burst-fire combos with a single press. However, there’s a crucial caveat to using this feature you should be aware of. Assigning macros carries a significant ban risk in many popular online games, so if you’re serious about competitive gaming, we strongly advise against using them.

Infinix GT 30 Pro’s mobile might, tested

Forget midrange mediocrity. The Infinix GT 30 Pro isn’t playing by those rules, arriving instead with the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Ultimate. The chip is a true powerhouse, usually reserved for pricier sub-flagship devices. Built on an efficient 4nm process, it promises both efficiency and raw muscle. Under the hood, you’ll find a six-core Mali-G615 graphics engine alongside a mix of high-performance Cortex-A715 power cores — operating at up to 3.35GHz — and frugal A510 cores to handle less demanding tasks. On paper, it’s a spec sheet that easily rivals the best mid-level handsets available right now.

This marks the first phone we’ve tested featuring the Dimensity 8350 Ultimate, and we’re happy to report it lives up to its high-performance billing. Our real-world experience has been nothing short of smooth sailing. Apps launch in a snap, multitasking feels effortless, and even the heaviest applications struggle to make the device break a sweat.

Now, for the main event: gaming, which is undeniably the biggest draw of the GT 30 Pro. Naturally, Infinix isn’t shy about making bold claims regarding the hardware — most notably, the unit’s ability to run graphics-intensive titles at their highest possible frame rates.

For select games like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Call of Duty: Mobile, and PUBG Mobile, the Infinix GT 30 Pro has even received official certification for up to 120 FPS, unlocking a level of ultra-smooth responsiveness that competitive players will appreciate. Other titles supporting 120 FPS or even faster gameplay include Honor of Kings, Battlegrounds Mobile India, and Standoff 2. The latter, in particular, pushes frame rates to a staggering 144 FPS peak, and from our tests, we can attest that the GT 30 Pro hits that ceiling.

So, what about Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and PUBG Mobile? Surprisingly, our review unit can indeed push 120 FPS in both titles. However, don’t expect solid consistency out of both titles. Frame rates will occasionally dip, especially during intense action or prolonged gaming sessions in warmer environments. Still, this is a significant win for the brand. Many competing products from other OEMs often arbitrarily cap frame rates, even when their chipsets are perfectly capable of handling higher refresh rates. Infinix, refreshingly, isn’t holding back here.

120 FPS gaming in select games like MLBB (what’s shown here), CoD, and PUBG Mobile? A big check!

There’s an important drawback, though: Achieving those high frame rates often means dialing down the graphics settings. Take PUBG Mobile, for instance. To hit maximum FPS, you’ll need to pull back graphical fidelity to Smooth — the lowest available setting. This isn’t entirely unexpected. After all, we’re not dealing with a full-blown flagship chipset here, and the price tag should reflect that.

We’ll be back with a deeper dive into gaming tests — and their impact on the smartphone’s battery life — in our review, once the local embargo lifts. For now, consider us genuinely impressed.

Early impressions

Like its predecessor, the Infinix GT 30 Pro is quickly shaping up to be a gaming powerhouse. It ticks all the crucial boxes: a gaming-grade Dimensity 8350 Ultimate chipset, a buttery-smooth 144Hz AMOLED display now boasting a sharper resolution and increased brightness, and those crucial shoulder triggers optimized for mobile dominance. Crucially, the GT 30 Pro lets you play competitive online games like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Call of Duty: Mobile, and PUBG Mobile at 120 FPS with the right settings. This phone is built to directly compete with the fastest devices in its segment — all at a price that, we’re told, won’t burn a hole in your wallet. Stay tuned for more in our full review.
