Samsung‘s annual refresh of its foldable Galaxy Z line is finally here. The South Korean technology giant today pulled back the curtain on three new foldables — the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, and Galaxy Z Flip7 FE — alongside the Galaxy Watch8 wearables at a global event in Brooklyn, New York.

Pricing and availability

Before we go any further, let’s talk pricing and availability, which will vary depending on your region.

In the Philippines, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 kicks off at P112,990 (around $2,000) for the base model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, scaling up to P120,990 ($2,141) and P141,990 ($2,513) for the 12GB/512GB and 16GB/1TB configurations, respectively. Yep, just like the rumors suggested, the Galaxy Z Fold7 does come with a noticeable price hike compared to last year’s launch price of P105,990 ($1,876). Will this deter buyers? Probably not for those grabbing it on a credit card installment or through a data plan, but it’s a trend we’ll be keeping an eye on.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7, on the other hand, starts at P70,990 ($1,257) for the base variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, while the top-end 12GB/512GB will run you P78,990 ($1,398). Finally, there’s the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, a fresh face in the company’s foldable family. It will set you back P56,990 ($1,009) and P60,990 ($1,080) for the 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB, respectively.

All three smartphones come in various color options, with exclusive colorways offered through Samsung’s official online store.

As we’ve previously reported, registrations for these folding devices were open worldwide. In the Philippines, fans who registered for the 2025 Unpacked event will receive a P5,000 ($89) digital voucher (redeemable on Samsung’s online store) and a chance to win a Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra.

If you’re thinking of grabbing one of these new foldables, make sure to preorder your Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, or Galaxy Z Flip7 FE by July 31. You’ll automatically score a free storage upgrade worth P8,000 ($142). Plus, Samsung is throwing in expanded access to Google AI Pro and a generous 2TB of cloud storage for six months — all at no extra charge.

While the Flip7 hones in on refining the user experience, thanks to a larger and more functional cover display, it’s the Fold7 that takes the bigger leap this time around. It boasts a significantly sleeker design, larger main and cover displays, and the series’ first 200-megapixel main camera. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, as the name suggests, serves as the gateway to Samsung’s latest foldables, offering the most palatable price tag among the trio.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7: Ultra-sleek, ultra-capable

Samsung’s latest flagship foldable is a hardware marvel. It launches as the thinnest, lightest Galaxy Z Fold device yet, and the difference is staggering compared to previous generations. Next to this year’s Fold, 2024’s Galaxy Z Fold6 looks like a relic — and we have the photos (and videos) to prove it. Tipping the scales at just 215 grams, the new model is even lighter than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max, which come in at 218 and 227 grams, respectively. It’s also a mere 8.9mm thick when folded and 4.2mm when unfolded, easily making it one of the slimmest foldables on the market today.

The screen, too, sees a massive improvement — literally. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 packs a larger 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x cover display with a wider 21:9 aspect ratio, making it easier to type on and use as an alternative to the main folding screen. Speaking of, the inner Dynamic AMOLED 2x screen now spans 8 inches — an 11% increase compared to the previous model — providing even more screen real estate for content editing and seamless multitasking across multiple apps.

All that sleekness doesn’t mean sacrificing durability. The outer panel is armed with Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, a new-generation glass ceramic boasting intricately embedded crystals for serious protection and crack resistance, all while staying incredibly thin. Inside, the primary folding display has been completely re-engineered to be thinner and lighter, yet somehow even stronger. Meanwhile, Samsung’s Advanced Armor Aluminum reinforces the frame and hinge, boosting their strength and hardness by a solid 10%.

Unfortunately, the battery is still a 4,400mAh unit. Look, it’s understandable why, what with Samsung shaving down the thickness and weight, but we were really hoping for something — either a bigger battery or at least faster charging (which is still capped at 25 watts). Especially since, to put it mildly, the Galaxy Z Fold’s battery life has never been its claim to fame, like, ever.

Powering the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, promising substantial performance boosts. And the brand is touting some pretty significant performance numbers — we’re talking 41% more NPU power, a 38% faster CPU, and a 26% bump in GPU compared to the last one. And guess what? We can back that up. During Samsung’s NDA event, we absolutely pushed a review unit to its limits, running both Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail at the same time in split-screen, settings maxed out. The phone handled it pretty well.

Of course, with all that screen real estate on the main display and a best-in-class processor, this device truly shines when running AI-enhanced apps. Thanks to Samsung’s Galaxy AI Optimized for Large Screens, this Fold promises to deliver experiences that truly maximize the benefits of its expansive foldable display to boost productivity. AI Results View displays AI feature results in a separate Split View or Floating View, keeping your original content unobstructed and visible. And if you’re comfortable with multitasking on a handset, you’ll absolutely love how efficiently you can now drag and drop AI-generated content — whether it’s images or text — directly from Multi Window.

Ultimately, the Galaxy Z Fold7 looks like a pretty sweet upgrade, especially if you’ve been on the fence about Samsung’s ultra-premium foldable. You’re getting a much sleeker device that feels a lot more like a “normal” smartphone in your hand, all while still unfolding into a small tablet and packing the punch of the fastest mobile processor available today. If only Samsung had squeezed in a bigger battery and a slightly friendlier price tag…

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7, Samsung Z Flip7 FE: A hit and a miss?

The new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 is a welcome, if somewhat predictable, evolution of the highly successful Flip formula. It proudly retains that iconic clamshell design that initially propelled the series to popularity, offering a phone that snaps open into a spacious display for comfortable one-handed use. The big story here, though, is how Samsung has pushed the FlexWindow display (read: cover screen) to its absolute limits, making it as expansive as possible within the familiar dimensions of its predecessor.

The company touts this new outer screen as “edge-to-edge,” and honestly, it’s not wrong. Content truly spills from bezel to bezel, creating a visually impressive front. And as you’d expect, that bigger display unlocks a ton more possibilities, especially when it comes to AI.

Beyond just giving you a more generous viewfinder for taking selfies with the main camera array, the external display now seamlessly integrates Samsung’s Now Bar. This feature, which debuted with One UI 7 and carries over to the Android 16-based One UI 8 the Flip7 is running at launch, brings at-a-glance information and controls directly to your lock screen. No need to fully unlock the device for quick tasks like checking live notifications, managing music playback, setting timers, or even peeking at Google Maps and Samsung Health updates. Plus, the FlexWindow’s clock gets a stylish upgrade, adapting and stretching to complement your chosen wallpaper, wrapping the font around faces or objects in the image to keep the time clearly visible.

Time to Flip?

Now for the elephant in the room. Despite all these cool new features, you’re still largely limited to widgets on that external screen. This means you can’t use it like the more versatile cover display on a foldable like the Fold7, which offers a full-blown home screen with full app support. Sure, for some users, that’s probably perfectly fine. However, we’ve seen other manufacturers push their clamshell foldables to do so much more with their smaller external displays. Given that, it’s genuinely hard to find an excuse for Samsung skipping this crucial feature, especially considering how loudly many users have been asking for it. It feels like a missed opportunity to truly elevate the user experience.

And for a genuine curveball, the Galaxy Z Flip7 is rocking Samsung’s own 3nm Exynos 2500 processor, not the Snapdragon 8 Elite we see in the Z Fold7. But hey, at least there’s a win on the battery front. This time around, you’re getting a 4,300mAh cell, which is a nice little upgrade from the 4,000mAh found in last year’s Galaxy Z Flip6.

As for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE? We’re genuinely wondering why there’s one — especially when you put it next to last year’s Galaxy Z Flip6, which is even cheaper now following the Galaxy Z Flip7’s launch. Had Samsung equipped it with a truly newer chip like the Exynos 2500 or Snapdragon 8 Elite, maybe we’d see the point here. Or if the hardware mirrored the Flip7 with its bigger external display and sleeker dimensions. We think if Samsung truly wants to push a “foldable for the masses,” it needs to aggressively slash the price or just make the Flip6 a whole lot cheaper to entice buyers. But that’s just us.
