The midrange smartphone landscape just got a lot more interesting. vivo has officially launched the vivo V60 in India, and it’s a device that aims to punch above its weight with a focus on photography, battery life, and a high level of durability.
The camera: A big bet on ZEISS telephoto
The vivo V60’s headline feature is undoubtedly its camera system, particularly the inclusion of a 50-megapixel telephoto lens. It uses a periscope-lens design to achieve a true 3x optical zoom, something rarely seen in this price segment. Telephoto cameras are crucial for taking clear, detailed photos of distant subjects without losing quality — think concert photos from the back row or portraits where you need to create a sense of compression between the subject and the background.
The brand’s partnership with ZEISS also brings a suite of software enhancements. The ZEISS Multifocal Portrait modes, which offer five different focal lengths and unique bokeh effects, are now expanded with new 85mm and 100mm options. This gives photographers more creative control to achieve a range of classic portrait styles directly from the phone. For India specifically, there’s a new Wedding vLog feature that uses AI to automatically edit cinematic wedding videos. The 50-megapixel front-facing camera with a wide 92-degree field of view is a notable highlight as well, especially for group selfies.

The design: Slim, durable, and inspired
While the vivo V60 has a massive 6,500mAh battery, the company has managed to keep the unit slim, with the Mist Gray variant measuring just 7.53mm thick. The 6.77-inch quad-curved AMOLED display flows seamlessly around the edges, creating a borderless feel.
The build quality is a major talking point, too. The V60 features IP68 and IP69 ratings. IP68 means the phone can be submerged in water, while IP69 goes a step further, protecting it from high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. Combined with Schott’s Diamond Shield Glass, this vivo V60 series model is engineered to withstand more than just a splash. The colorways — Auspicious Gold, Moonlit Blue, and Mist Gray — are inspired by Indian cultural motifs, a nod to the market the V60 is launching in.

Performance and software: The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 and Gemini integration
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 used here is a midrange chipset that delivers significant improvements in CPU and GPU performance over its predecessor. This should translate to a smooth user experience, whether you’re gaming, multitasking, or using the device’s AI features.
Speaking of AI, the vivo V60 comes with Google Gemini preinstalled. The brand is integrating Gemini’s capabilities into the user experience, from live transcriptions and translations in calls to AI-powered photo-editing tools. The commitment to long-term software support — four years of OS updates and six years of security updates — is a welcome assurance for users who want their smartphones to last.
Price and availability
In India, the vivo V60 goes on sale beginning August 19. With a starting price of ₹36,999, it enters a highly competitive segment, but its combination of a powerful ZEISS-backed camera, exceptional battery life in a slim body, and top-tier durability seems like it’s a compelling option.
