TECNO POVA Slim 5G, SPARK Slim introduced as slimmest 3D-curved phones at IFA 2025

Apple isn’t the only company chasing an ultrathin design. TECNO has made one thing clear at IFA 2025 in Berlin, Germany — slim is officially back in.

The Transsion Holdings sub-brand just took the wraps off the TECNO Slim, which includes two new smartphones that are vying for the title of the slimmest “3D-curved phones” on the global market. First up is the TECNO SPARK Slim, which we saw as a prototype at MWC earlier this year. It’s now official, launching with a razor-thin 5.93mm frame. It’s joined by the TECNO POVA Slim 5G, which, at a near-identical 5.95mm, clinches the title of the “world’s slimmest 3D-curved 5G phone.”

Remember this? 😀

To put that into perspective, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is 8.3mm thick, and Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra comes in at 8.2mm. These TECNO phones are in a different league of thin, and at just 156 grams, they’re significantly lighter, too.

The big question, at least for us in the Philippines, is if these devices will ever land here. For now, the POVA Slim 5G has surfaced on India’s Flipkart for ₹19,999 (around P12,861 or $227) for the 8GB/128GB model. If that pricing holds, we can expect the 4G-only SPARK Slim to be even more affordable, potentially making it a killer budget contender if it launches locally.

Just how did TECNO pull this off without sacrificing battery? The company claims its Honeycomb Space Stacking technology allowed it to re-engineer everything from the motherboard to the cooling system, optimizing internal space by 12%. This let them cram a surprisingly large 5,160mAh battery — that is itself only 4.04mm thick — into that impossibly thin chassis.

And if you’re worried a phone this slender might snap in your pocket, TECNO says both models have passed military-grade shock-resistance tests and come equipped with IP64 water and dust resistance and a screen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.

The TECNO Slim at IFA 2025

The TECNO SPARK Slim and TECNO POVA Slim 5G appear to share an identical chassis, leading us to believe they’re essentially 4G and 5G variants of the same device, cleverly branded to boost two of the brand’s biggest product lines. They even feature the same Mood Light Design on the back — two circular camera rings that double as notification lights. These “eyes” use light animations for calls, alerts, and charging to convey moods, adding a surprisingly human-like touch.

Under the hood, the key difference is the chipset. The more affordable SPARK Slim runs on MediaTek’s Helio G200 4G chip, while the POVA Slim 5G gets a 6nm Dimensity 6400 SoC. Other than that, they have a vibrant, curved AMOLED display with a buttery-smooth 144Hz refresh rate and 4,500 nits of peak brightness, a 50-megapixel main camera, and 45-watt fast charging. Both Slim models also run HiOS 15, based on Android 15.
