MediaTek has quietly taken the wraps off its latest midrange chipset, the MediaTek Dimensity 7100.

If that numbering scheme sounds familiar, it is because this silicon is the direct successor to the Dimensity 7050, the same chip found in some of 2024’s heavy hitters in the Philippines, including the realme 12 Plus 5G and the OPPO Reno11 F 5G, which we reviewed.

Based on the specs sheet, it seems the new SoC focuses heavily on efficiency. Built on TSMC’s latest 6nm production process, the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 promises tangible improvements in battery consumption. Specifically, the manufacturer touts that it’s up to 5% more power-efficient in general apps, boasts a 23% more efficient modem, and delivers 16% better power conservation during multimedia playback compared to its predecessor. Basically, that means longer battery life, especially if you watch a lot of shows on your phone.

On top of those gains, the platform features a revamped power-management system with integrated 45-watt fast charging and support for UFCS universal adapters. Plus, it has a special low-power mode that squeezes out an extra 7% battery life compared to standard chip designs.

We likely won’t have to wait long to see the SoC in action. Rumors suggest the upcoming Infinix NOTE Edge, expected to become official later this month, might be the debut device for the platform. However, depending on the region, the TECNO POVA Curve 2 could beat it to market.

Could the Infinix NOTE Edge be the debut device for the MediaTek Dimensity 7100?

Or the TECNO POVA Curve?

Given that both Infinix and TECNO are aggressive players in many Asian markets, especially here in the Philippines, local consumers should expect these handsets to arrive on our shores sooner rather than later.

As for the specs, the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 features an octa-core CPU configuration, led by four performance-focused Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 2.4GHz. These are backed by four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores running at 2.0GHz to handle background tasks.

Graphics duties are handled by a Mali-G610MC2 GPU, ensuring decent gaming performance for the segment. In terms of memory and speeds, the chipset supports fast LPDDR5 RAM as well as LPDDR4x RAM, alongside UFS 3.1 storage for a more responsive experience. Meanwhile, shutterbugs will be pleased to know the Image Signal Processor, or ISP, can handle a maximum camera resolution of 200 megapixels, allowing for high-detail photography. On the display front, the Dimensity 7100 supports resolutions up to 2,600 x 1,200, paired with a 120Hz refresh rate.
