Redmagic 11 Air debuts globally: A slim gaming beast from $499

Gaming phones have a reputation for being chunky, RGB-lit bricks that require cargo pants just to carry around. Redmagic is trying to challenge that stereotype today with the global launch of the Redmagic 11 Air.

Announced today, Jan. 29, this Air is the sleeper car of smartphones: sleek and professional on the outside, but hiding a literal 24,000 RPM turbo fan under the hood. It manages to be 12% thinner and 10% lighter than the Redmagic 11 Pro, yet it somehow crams in more battery than almost any mainstream flagship on the market.

The specs and features that matter

If you’re buying the Redmagic 11 Air, you’re buying it for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite. This 3nm chip is paired with the nubia sub-brand’s own RedCore R4 gaming processor, which handles the heavy lifting for things like haptics and audio so the main SoC can focus on keeping your frame rates high. The 6.85-inch AMOLED display hits a 144Hz refresh rate, providing smoother visuals than the 120Hz panel found on the older 10 Air. Unlike many modern flagships, there is no notch or island here; the 16-megapixel selfie camera is hidden under the display for a completely uninterrupted view.

Inside, you’re looking at up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. To keep all that power from turning the phone into a pocket heater, Redmagic introduced its first active cooling turbofan for the Air series, spinning at a wild 24,000 RPM. This is paired with an upgraded “Ice-Steps” vapor chamber that claims a 40% improvement in heat diffusion.

We think one of the most impressive engineering feats here is the endurance. The brand added 1,000mAh of capacity compared to last year’s 10 Air. To keep the device healthy during marathon sessions, it uses Charge Separation. This tech bypasses the battery to power the motherboard directly when you’re plugged in and gaming, which significantly reduces heat and preserves long-term battery health.

One thing to note for the international audience: While the Chinese variant launched with 120-watt charging, the global model is capped at 80-watt fast charging. It’s a trade-off, but with 7,000mAh in the tank, you likely won’t be reaching for the cable mid-day anyway.

And because it’s 2026, there is plenty of AI baked into Redmagic OS 11.0. Beyond the usual Google Gemini integration for translation and writing, there’s a “Tactical Coach” in the Game Space. It provides real-time guidance for games like PUBG Mobile and Free Fire, though purists might argue that’s bordering on a legal cheat code.
