HONOR Philippines is filling out its 2026 calendar with the HONOR X8d, the brand’s third smartphone launch this year. Set to officially debut in the country on March 19, the device is a clear play for the student and lifestyle market, leaning heavily on a slim industrial design and a pixel-dense 108-megapixel primary camera.

The most immediate thing about the HONOR X8d is its profile. At 7.5mm thick, it’s remarkably thin for something that houses a 108-megapixel sensor. The company says it’s using something called “advanced excimer technology” to give the back panel a high-gloss finish, accented by a metal barrel around the camera housing. It’s an aesthetic that feels more premium than the “budget-friendly” tag usually implies.

Our HONOR X8d unboxing video

That 108-megapixel “Ultra-Clear AI Camera” is the centerpiece of the spec sheet. It supports 3x lossless zoom, which should help mitigate the lack of a dedicated telephoto lens for those street photography shots HONOR is pushing. Under the hood, we’re looking at a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2, paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage.

Despite its 7.5mm profile, HONOR managed to fit a 7,000mAh battery inside, a feat that could make the X8d a multiday phone without the usual bulk. The display is a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, which is flagship-level territory for outdoor legibility.

The “AI” in the name isn’t just for the camera processing. The HONOR X8d includes a dedicated physical AI Button to trigger MagicOS features like Magic Portal, allowing users to drag images or text across apps with a single gesture. It also carries an SGS 5-star rating for drop resistance, supposedly surviving falls from up to 2 meters — a necessary feature for the always-on-the-move crowd HONOR is targeting.

“Today’s students are creative, expressive, and always on the move. We offer HONOR X8d to match that energy: sleek, capable, and budget-friendly,” HONOR Philippines Vice President Stephen Cheng said. “It proves that you don’t have to spend more to stand out and stay connected.”

We’ll have to wait until March 19 to see if the price matches the “student-friendly” hype. Until then, you can check out the unboxing reel we embedded on this page.
