The gaming phone segment is getting increasingly crowded, but nubia is betting big that sheer value will cut through the noise. On March 28, we were on the ground at SM Megamall’s Fashion Hall for the Philippine launch of the nubia Neo 5 Series — an aggressive three-tier lineup featuring the nubia Neo 5 GT 5G, nubia Neo 5 Pro 5G, and nubia Neo 5 5G — aimed squarely at mobile gamers who want performance without the flagship tax.
If you’re looking to upgrade, here is everything you need to know about the lineup, the early-bird promos, and the industry headwinds nubia is trying to outmaneuver behind the scenes.
Pricing, availability, and the promos
The nubia Neo 5 Series is officially available in the Philippines, hitting specific, highly competitive price-to-performance targets. Here is the official price breakdown:
- nubia Neo 5 5G (8GB/128GB): ₱11,999 (roughly $198)
- nubia Neo 5 Pro 5G (12GB/256GB): ₱14,999 ($247)
- nubia Neo 5 GT 5G (8GB/256GB): ₱17,999 ($297)
- nubia Neo 5 GT 5G (12GB/256GB): ₱19,999 ($330)
The ZTE subsidiary isn’t just launching smartphones; it’s running some aggressive promotions to get these devices into hands early:
- The Geely raffle: From March 28 to May 30, buying any of the three models earns you a raffle entry to win a major prize: a Geely GX3 Pro in white, plus a Neo 5 GT 5G. Minor prizes include the base and Pro models.
- TikTok Shop Super Brand Day: If you’re buying online between now and April 3, you can score up to 15% off plus exclusive freebies via TikTok Shop.
- Launch Day Madness: If you were one of the first 100 people at Megamall yesterday to buy the nubia Neo 5 GT 5G, you walked away with a wild “Buy 1, Take 7” on-ground exclusive deal.
Breaking down the nubia Neo 5 Series
Instead of just slapping a different coat of paint on the same chassis, nubia has distinctly segmented the three devices. All three phones lean heavily into a flat, gamer-centric aesthetic, feature an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance, and come with bypass charging — an absolute necessity for preserving battery health during marathon gaming sessions. They also all share the same camera setup: a 50-megapixel AI dual rear camera and a 16-megapixel front shooter.
@revuphilippines The nubia Neo 5 GT 5G just brought a built-in RGB cooling fan and a 144Hz AMOLED screen to a sub-₱20,000 fight. 💪 We've had the top-tier model in the studio, pushing that MediaTek Dimensity 7400 chip to its limit. Does it actually live up to the #BornToWin hype, or does it throttle under pressure? 🤔 Watch this before we drop our full review at www.revu.com.ph / #RevuDotComDotPH! #nubiaNeo5GT #nubiaNeo5Series #EnterTheNEOverse @nubiaphilippines @ztephilippines @monch @Alora Uy Guerrero ♬ original sound – REVU Philippines
Born to win? Here’s a closer look at the nubia Neo 5 GT 5G
Inspired by Redmagic Lab, the nubia Neo 5 GT 5G is the flagship killer of the trio, explicitly designed to push high framerates without thermal throttling. It trades the Unisoc chips found in the lower models for a more robust 2.6GHz MediaTek Dimensity 7400 octa-core processor, paired with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Visually, it’s the only model in the lineup rocking a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a sharper 1.5K resolution and a blistering 144Hz refresh rate. To keep that silicon cool, nubia packed in an actual built-in RGB cooling fan alongside a large 29,508mm² cooling area. Add in the 550Hz Neo Triggers 5.0, DTS:X Ultra stereo speakers, and a 6,210mAh battery with 80-watt fast charging, and it’s clear this smartphone is built for heavy lifting. It’s powered by the upgraded Demi 2.0 (AI Gaming) engine.
We at REVU currently have the GT variant in the studio, with our review set to drop tomorrow, March 30. While you wait, here’s a quick look at its specs:
- 6.8-inch AMOLED display, 1.5K resolution, 144Hz refresh rate
- 2.6GHz MediaTek Dimensity 7400 octa-core processor
- 8GB/12GB RAM
- 256GB storage
- Demi 2.0 (AI Gaming)
- 6,210mAh battery with 80-watt fast wired charging
- Bypass charging
- IP64 rating
- Built-in RGB cooling fan
- 550Hz Neo Triggers 5.0
- 29,508mm² cooling area
- Flat design with rounded corners
- DTS:X Ultra stereo dual speakers
- 50-megapixel AI dual rear camera (50MP main + 2MP depth)
- 16-megapixel front camera
Sitting right in the middle, the nubia Neo 5 Pro 5G makes calculated compromises to keep the price down while retaining core gaming features. It drops the built-in fan and drops the refresh rate down to 120Hz, though it still uses a vibrant 6.8-inch OLED panel.
Under the hood, it runs on a 2.7GHz Unisoc T9100 octa-core processor and comes standard with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. You still get dual gaming shoulder triggers, a solid 4,083mm² VC cooling system, and a 6,000mAh battery that supports the same rapid 80-watt charging as the GT. It’s the practical choice for gamers who want the tactile feel of triggers but don’t need the absolute bleeding edge of mobile display tech. It relies on Game Space 5.0 for its AI gaming enhancements.
Check out the full specs below to see exactly what the Neo 5 Pro brings to the table:
- 6.8-inch OLED display, 120Hz refresh rate
- 2.7GHz Unisoc T9100 octa-core processor

The base model, the nubia Neo 5 5G is focused on bringing high-refresh-rate gaming to the sub-₱12,000 (sub-$198) category. It relies on a standard 6.8-inch display, but impressively maintains the 120Hz refresh rate of the Pro.
Powered by a 2.4GHz Unisoc T9300 chipset with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, this version is tailored for mainstream titles rather than pushing AAA games to their absolute max settings. Even at this price point, nubia managed to include a 20,000mm² total cooling area, the 550Hz Neo Triggers 5.0, and a dual-cell 6,050mAh battery with respectable 45-watt charging. Like the Pro, it uses Game Space 5.0.

Surviving the AI-driven component crunch
Hardware is only half the story. It’s easy to look at a spec sheet and take 12GB of RAM or 256GB of storage for granted. But behind the scenes, the budget smartphone market is currently fighting a huge hurdle: the skyrocketing cost of memory.
In an interview with REVU during the launch, local and regional nubia and ZTE executives shed light on how they’re navigating this. The rising cost of memory, fueled heavily by the global AI boom, is an inevitable industry reality. When component prices surge, value brands usually have two choices: quietly downgrade the specs to maintain margins, or raise the retail price.
nubia is taking a different route. ZTE Public Relations Manager Paula Palo said they will continue to offer the best price-to-performance ratio in its class without downgrading hardware. They are actively looking into expanding storage capacities, too, with a 512GB variant currently in the pipeline — though it may land in a different product line.
They are also pushing hard on longevity. For a sub-₱20,000 (sub-$330) device, software support is usually an afterthought, but nubia confirmed the Neo 5 series will receive updates for at least five years. This includes at least two Android baseline updates, alongside security patches that will roll out at least every quarter, with critical updates pushed immediately.
As for the gaming experience, their AI integration is evolving. Currently acting as a gaming coach, future updates will expand Demi AI into an active “teammate,” incorporating advanced anti-fraud functions and exploring agentic AI capabilities for future devices.
