Building on its deep strategic partnership with Leica, the new lineup — headlined by the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Xiaomi 17 — packs serious silicon and oversized camera modules into the premium Android space.

Before diving into the spec sheets, let’s talk price and availability. In Europe, the camera-centric Xiaomi 17 Ultra starts at €1,499 (around ₱101,959 or $1,740) and comes in Black, White, and Starlit Green. The standard Xiaomi 17 begins at €999 (₱67,950 or $1,159), offered in Black, Venture Green, Alpine Pink, and Ice Blue. Both flagships are now available worldwide.

In the Philippines, Xiaomi’s latest Leica-powered flagships come with their own set of prices, configurations, and preorder perks.

  • Xiaomi 17 Ultra (16GB/512GB): Priced at ₱99,999 ($1,705), with an exclusive Shopee preorder deal at ₱84,999 ($1,449).
  • Regular models
    • Xiaomi 17 (12GB/512GB): Retails at ₱55,999 ($955), with a special preorder price of ₱53,999 ($921).
    • Xiaomi 17 (12GB/256GB): Suggested retail price of ₱53,599 ($914), slashed to ₱49,999 ($852) for early buyers.
      • Preorder bonus: A free Xiaomi Watch S4 41mm and a raffle entry for a Leica Q3 full-frame camera.

To sweeten the deal, buyers also receive ₱20,999 ($358) worth of extras, including a three-month Google AI Pro subscription with 2TB of storage, four months of Spotify Premium, 24-month quality assurance, a free screen replacement within the first six months, and complimentary labor for out-of-warranty repairs during the warranty period. The preorder period runs until March 19.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra

If you’re picking up the top-tier Ultra, chances are you’re here for the camera overkill, but the rest of the handset is just as uncompromising. Up front is a huge 6.9-inch HyperRGB OLED display that pushes up to 3,500 nits with a silky-smooth 1-120Hz LTPO refresh rate, perfect for reviewing shots even under the harsh midday sun.

Powering it all is Qualcomm’s latest 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, delivering more than enough muscle to chew through RAW photo files and heavy gaming without breaking a sweat.

The centerpiece, as expected, sits around back. A giant Leica-engineered module leads with a 50-megapixel, 1-inch primary camera using the Light Fusion 1050L sensor and LOFIC technology to vastly improve dynamic range, keeping highlights from clipping while preserving shadow detail in high-contrast or low-light scenes. Beside it sits a groundbreaking 200-megapixel periscope-telephoto system with continuous mechanical optical zoom between 75mm and 100mm.

For videographers, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra shoots Dolby Vision and ACES Log video at up to 4K 120fps across both the main and telephoto lenses. Despite the hardware, it measures just 8.29mm thick and packs a hefty 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery with 90-watt wired and 50-watt wireless charging. Durability also gets a boost with IP68 protection and Xiaomi Shield Glass 3.0.

And for those who want to lean fully into the point-and-shoot experience, Xiaomi offers a €199.99 (₱13,595) Photography Kit Pro. It adds a slip-resistant PU leather grip and detachable shutter button, while also providing an extra 2,000mAh of battery life and unlocking a dedicated Fastshot mode for immediate manual controls.

Xiaomi 17

Last year, we reviewed the Xiaomi 15 and walked away incredibly impressed. It was easily one of the best phones on the Philippine market, proving once and for all that “flagship” doesn’t always have to mean “massive.” The regular Xiaomi 17 picks up right where its predecessor left off, standing tall as a compact yet highly capable powerhouse.

This time, Xiaomi has trimmed the footprint even further, with razor-thin 1.18mm bezels framing a manageable 6.3-inch LTPO OLED display. Despite its smaller size, it still delivers the same 3,500-nit peak brightness as the Ultra. Performance remains uncompromised too, thanks to the identical Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset under the hood.

On the imaging front, the setup scales back to a Leica-tuned triple 50-megapixel array: a Light Fusion 950 main sensor, an ultrawide, and a 60mm “floating” telephoto lens, promising excellent shots without the added bulk. Surprisingly, this smaller model actually manages to cram in a larger 6,330mAh silicon-carbon battery, paired with 100-watt wired and 50-watt wireless charging.
