Alongside the Mi A2, the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Android One smartphone has also been launched for those who yearn for the pure Android experience at a more agreeable price. The smartphone, as we have noted, is virtually identical — both inside and out — to the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro for the Chinese market.

Like the Mi A2, the Mi A2 Lite will be available starting this month and will eventually arrive to 40 countries in due time. The Philippines could get it in a couple of weeks’ time, as the company’s local outfit has begun teasing the phone on social media.

It also revealed the local pricing, with the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite set to go on sale at retail for P9,990 (around $188), for the version with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage. The 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM edition, which is similar to the Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro unit we’ve featured earlier this month, is expected to cost P11,990 ($225).

Besides running Android 8.1 Oreo based on stock Android and getting timely software updates from Google (with a planned update to Android P already in the pipeline), another highlight is the Mi A2 Lite’s back-facing camera system, which uses 12- and 5-megapixel sensors. The two work in tandem to create a focal separation between the subject and background, with the latter getting a soft-blur effect. The front camera has a single solution for taking selfies.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite’s rear camera system uses 12- and 5-megapixel sensors.

There is a notch at the top of the 5.84-inch, 2,280 x 1,080 LCD screen to house components like the selfie camera and earpiece speaker. The bezels on the side are quite narrow, but that isn’t quite the case with the one on the chin of the device.
