As early as April, there was already evidence on benchmarking site Geekbench that a Samsung phone running Android Oreo (Go edition) exists. Now, the Korean tech giant has made the handset, the Samsung Galaxy J2 Core, official.

Android Go, of course, is a version of the OS that’s optimized for entry-level devices with at most 1GB of RAM. It saves space wherever it’s needed, uses less data, and boasts the same key security features as the full-blown Android Oreo. Which means the Galaxy J2 Core should be priced low, as it’s meant for consumers who are first-time smartphone users, people with low income, and those who live in areas with poor signal coverage.

In India, where it will be available first, it’s expected to sell for ₹5,499 (roughly P4,202 or $79). It will be sold in Malaysia and Indonesia, too. We’re not sure if the device will be offered in the Philippines as well. We’ll let you know as soon as we get word from one of the company’s local representatives.

The Samsung Galaxy J2 Core is a 5-incher that’s powered by an Exynos 7570 processor, matched with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of memory. It features a 2,600mAh battery, an 8-megapixel camera on the back, and a 5-megapixel one for selfies.

In the Philippines, smartphones running Android Go — such as the Nokia 1 and the Cherry Mobile Flare P3 Plus, Flare P3, and Flare P3 Lite — are already available in stores nationwide.

  • 8-megapixel rear camera, f/2.2 aperture
