OPPO Find X8 Ultra crowned new ‘camera king’ in Dxomark rankings

A new “camera king” has been crowned. Dxomark just published its camera-test results for OPPO‘s latest flagship smartphone, the China-exclusive OPPO Find X8 Ultra, and it earned the highest score among all devices tested to date.

The phone notched an impressive overall camera score of 169 points, pulling ahead of last year’s Huawei Pura 70 Ultra and Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Max, which scored 163 and 161 points, respectively. It also rated well above the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, and HONOR Magic7 Pro, effectively making it the reigning camera phone among current-gen flagships — if you go by Dxomark’s rating system and methodology.

Diving into its review, Dxomark lauded the OPPO Find X8 Ultra’s portrait mode, along with its “accurate exposure and effective HDR implementation in both photo and video” and “consistently natural and vibrant color rendering in both landscape and portrait scenarios.” The flagship also earned high marks for its auto-focus and zoom performance, alongside its ability to maintain a high level of detail, even in challenging scenarios. However, Dxomark also noted areas where the phone could improve, specifically in color reproduction and the presence of image artifacts like ghosting and fusion inconsistencies, which might pop up in challenging scenarios, especially with motion.

Overall, the camera-testing site found the Find X8 Ultra to be a highly compelling option for both photography enthusiasts and mobile videographers. It sets a new benchmark across several key areas of mobile-imaging performance. This leap forward apparently comes from an evolution of the Find X8 Pro’s already strong base, featuring upgraded sensors, improved optics, and the raw power of the cutting-edge Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset to boost its computational photography and imaging capabilities.

Unfortunately, this particular model from the Find X8 Series isn’t available in international markets — and you won’t find it in official retail stores in the Philippines, as only the standard OPPO Find X8 is available locally. If you’re interested, you can purchase the vanilla variant for P54,999 (around $970) at local retail, and we still swear by its camera chops even if it lacks the raw power of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite or that extra telephoto camera found in the top-end Find X8 Ultra.

Hopefully, its successor makes it here, because it’s always a shame when smartphone makers don’t bring their best products to markets where they’re doing relatively well. For those curious, the OPPO Find X8 Ultra launched in China this April, with pricing starting at ¥6,499 (around P51,342 or $906), and going up to ¥7,999 (P63,192 or $1,115) for the top-tier spec boasting satellite connectivity across the mainland.
