TECNO has just given us our first look at its latest ambitious concept: the TECNO PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold. The brand claims it’s the world’s thinnest tri-fold, boasting an inward-folding design that aims to address one of the biggest anxieties of foldable ownership: screen durability.
The PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold goes beyond the typical book-style foldables we’re used to. It features a G-style tri-fold mechanism, allowing its expansive 9.94-inch internal display to fold inward twice. The idea here is simple but crucial: When closed, that delicate main screen is completely shielded from the elements, protecting it from scratches and impacts. For quick glances and regular phone tasks, there’s a convenient second cover display on the outside.
So how thin is “thinnest”? TECNO says that when folded, the Ultimate G Fold measures a mere 11.49mm — a thickness comparable to many of today’s dual-fold smartphones. But the real magic happens when it’s fully unfurled, expanding into a tablet-like canvas that’s a staggeringly slim 3.49mm. That’s incredibly svelte, especially for a device with this much screen real estate and the added complexity of two hinges.

Can’t wait to see this in person!
Speaking of hinges, the TECNO PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold uses a custom-engineered dual-hinge system. There’s a smaller waterdrop hinge that allows one section of the display to fold inwards seamlessly, mimicking a traditional foldable. Then, a larger primary hinge folds the remaining part over the top, secured by a self-locking mechanism for a gapless and secure closure. This dual-hinge setup also enables multi-angle hovering, meaning you can partially fold the device and prop it up for various uses, turning it into a mini-workstation on the go.
Under the hood, while exact specifications are still under wraps, TECNO is teasing a “high-performance chipset,” a “versatile triple-camera system,” and a large 5,000mAh+ battery. Achieving such a slim profile with these flagship-level components is no small feat, and the company credits breakthroughs in display, hinge, and material science — including 2,000 MPa ultra-high-strength steel for the hinges and ultrastrong, 0.3mm thick titan diber for the back cover.
Just to be clear, the PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold is, for now, a concept. While TECNO is making significant strides in foldable technology, as evidenced by its previous prototypes and now this G Fold, it’s still a showcase of the brand’s engineering prowess rather than a product ready for your pocket. If you’re eager to see it in person, you’ll have to wait until MWC 2026 in Barcelona, Spain, where it plans to officially showcase the device. Until then, it’s a tantalizing glimpse into what the future of foldable phones might hold, with TECNO clearly signaling its intent to be a major player in this evolving space.
