The Kodak Charmera is tiny, nostalgic, and weirdly irresistible — a digital camera disguised as a keychain, wrapped in retro vibes, and sold like a collectible toy. After stirring up buzz online, it has finally landed in the Philippines. But getting one? That’s a whole other story.
A collaboration between Kodak and Reto, the Charmera is a blind-box digicam that’s part throwback tech, part Gen Z bait. It channels the spirit of Kodak’s 1980s disposable cameras, but swaps film for a 1.6-megapixel CMOS sensor that delivers grainy, imperfect shots — the kind that look more Tumblr than TikTok. It also shoots 1080p video at 30fps in AVI format, leaning hard into lo-fi charm.

Quick look at the Kodak Charmera
Each unit comes with seven built-in filters and four vintage-style frames, all baked into the camera’s firmware. It’s palm-sized at just 58 x 24.5 x 20mm, weighs a featherlight 30 grams, and charges via USB-C, a welcome nod to modern convenience. Storage is handled by a microSD card that’s sold separately, and every box includes one Kodak Charmera keychain digital camera, one USB-C charging cable, and one key-ring accessory.

Design-wise, the Charmera riffs on the original Kodak Fling, with seven vintage-inspired styles in rotation, including a rare “secret edition” with a transparent shell. But you won’t know which one you’re getting until you open the box. That’s part of the appeal.
Local retailer Henry’s Cameras has already sold out its first wave, priced at P2,000 (roughly $35), and is now taking preorders for the next batch. Meanwhile, Kodak Philippines is still in the blind-preorder phase, offering no firm release date and warning that registration doesn’t guarantee a unit. The scarcity is real — and intentional perhaps.

Essentially, the Kodak Charmera isn’t just a camera; it’s an experience built on scarcity and surprise, perfectly tapping into the Gen Z love for blind-box collectibles and vintage vibes. It’s a gamble that seems to be paying off for Kodak, proving that sometimes, the most sought-after tech isn’t about being the most powerful, but the most fun.
