Xiaomi‘s next flagship smartphones are right around the corner, and the company is doing something a little different this time around.
It has officially confirmed it’s skipping the 16 lineup entirely, jumping straight from the Xiaomi 15 to the new Xiaomi 17 series. This bold move puts the upcoming models in a direct showdown with Apple’s recently unveiled iPhone 17 line. In a post on Weibo, no less than Xiaomi president Lu Weibing revealed the new phones will launch later this month — about two months earlier than their predecessors. The series will include the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and the top-tier Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.
And true to form, these flagships will debut with the most powerful Qualcomm chip available for Android devices. The Xiaomi 17 models are claimed to be the first to feature the newly confirmed Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 5. This processor, which bizarrely skips four generations itself, is expected to be a performance champ, with benchmarks reportedly hitting a record-shattering Antutu score somewhere between 4.2 million and 4.4 million. It’s being built on TSMC’s latest 3nm process.
Weibing also said that the base model will bring significant improvements without a price hike, which is always great to hear. To give you some context, the Xiaomi 15 launched in China with a starting price of ¥4,499, or roughly $630. In the Philippines, the smartphone launched earlier this year with a P45,999 starting price for the 12GB/256GB configuration.
Word has it that the standard Xiaomi 17 will pack a 6.3-inch 1.5K LTPO OLED panel sporting a 120Hz refresh rate, same as the previous generation. It could also come with a massive 7,000mAh battery and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor.

Hello, Xiaomi 17 Pro Max?
The real wild card might be the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, which is said to feature a secondary rear display. This rumor got a major boost when the official Xiaomi Weibo account seemingly leaked the phone’s design by accidentally changing its profile picture to a photo of the device. The image shows a redesigned camera bump with a secondary screen built right into it.
The photo matches up with recent spy shots, showing a secondary display integrated with the camera island on the back of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. It appears to have two inlaid cameras. There’s a third one positioned below the camera island, next to the flash module. This isn’t the first time the company has done this, of course. The design is actually a throwback to the Mi 11 Ultra, which also had a secondary rear screen.
However, the display on the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max looks to be larger and more useful. Hopefully, it’s capable of running full-screen apps, similar to what you’d see on some clamshell foldable phones.
