DJI Osmo Action 6 goes global: Camera upgrades, official price

Action cameras have felt a bit stagnant lately, mostly just annual sensor bumps and slightly better stabilization. But DJI just woke up and chose violence. The company officially launched the DJI Osmo Action 6 globally, including in the Philippines, and it’s bringing something we’ve been begging for: a variable aperture lens attached to a weird, wonderful square sensor.

If you’ve ever tried to vlog in low light with an action cam, you know the pain of muddy, noisy footage. The DJI Osmo Action 6 tackles this with a new f/2.0 to f/4.0 variable aperture. That f/2.0 setting lets in significantly more light than the standard fixed f/2.8 lenses found on most competitors, which should make the new SuperNight mode actually usable rather than just a marketing gimmick. Conversely, stopping down to f/4.0 ensures those sweeping landscape shots remain tack-sharp from edge to edge.

The square sensor era

The other headline feature here is the new 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensor. It sounds odd, but it’s brilliant for the TikTok generation. Because the sensor is square, you can shoot in 4K Custom mode and decide later if you want a horizontal YouTube video or a vertical Reel — without losing image quality or physically rotating the camera. It lets you shoot now and crop later.

The rest of the spec sheet is just as aggressive. You get dual OLED screens (peak brightness of 800 nits, so you can actually see them under the tropical sun), 13.5 stops of dynamic range, and the ability to shoot 38-megapixel stills. For the slow-motion junkies, it handles 4K at 120fps or a mind-bending interpolated 960fps at 1080p.

Also, DJI finally fixed the storage anxiety. The Osmo Action 6 comes with 50GB of built-in storage. If you forget your microSD card, you aren’t dead in the water. Paired with a four-hour battery life and direct connectivity to the DJI Mic 2 ecosystem without a receiver, this is looking like the most frictionless vlogging setup on the market.
