Merry Christmas from all of us here at Revü Philippines! We hope you’re enjoying the holidays with good food and even better games.

If you’re looking to unwrap one more gift before the day ends, you’re in luck. The eighth day of the Epic Games Store’s mystery holiday promotion has arrived, and it brings a heavy hitter — The Callisto Protocol.

PC gamers can claim the sci-fi survival horror title for free right now. You have just a couple of hours left to add it to your library and keep it forever before the next mystery freebie replaces it tomorrow.

Developed by Striking Distance Studios and published by Krafton, The Callisto Protocol made headlines in 2022 as one of the most visually stunning games of the year. Set on Jupiter’s dead moon in the distant future, it was pitched as the spiritual successor to the legendary Dead Space series — which is no coincidence. Dead Space co-creator Glen Schofield directed Callisto, and fans of the EA classic will immediately recognize the heavy, industrial atmosphere and strategic dismemberment mechanics.

The single-player narrative follows Jacob Lee, a starship captain who finds himself falsely imprisoned in the Black Iron Prison. Things go south quickly when a mysterious illness sweeps through the facility, transforming inmates into terrifying, mutating creatures.

The Callisto Protocol is available to download for free until midnight December 26 in the Philippines

While the game was praised for its AAA graphics and incredible sound design, it had a rocky launch. Critics were divided on its melee-focused combat and linear structure, and it ultimately struggled to meet sales expectations. However, for the low price of free, it’s definitely worth a download to experience its graphical fidelity firsthand — assuming, of course, you don’t already own it.

True to tradition, Epic has been giving away a free game every day this holiday season, keeping us glued to the storefront. The only downside to this campaign is that they don’t announce the next title in advance. Well, that and the strict 24-hour claim window.

So far, the Epic Game Store has already handed out Hogwarts Legacy, Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel, Eternights, Blood West, Sorry We’re Closed, Paradise Killer, and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. The event is set to run until December 31, offering a fresh game every single day.

Earlier leaks regarding the lineup turned out to be wrong, so we really have no idea what is coming next. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that tomorrow’s mystery title matches the AAA production value of The Callisto Protocol.

And since you’re already in the spirit of grabbing freebies, don’t forget Epic’c mobile counterpart. The Epic Games Store on mobile will announce its new free game tomorrow. Currently, iOS and Android users can claim Shotgun King for free, so be sure to check that out before it’s gone.
