If you thought HONOR Philippines was done teasing us with the HONOR X9d 5G‘s durability claims, think again. The company just kicked off the new year with what might be its most chaotic “torture test” to date.
In a stunt dubbed the “HONOR X9d 5G Ultra Defense Challenge,” the brand brought out the big guns: brand ambassadors Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto, a series of extreme durability tests, and — because why not? — a Tesla Cybertruck.
@revuphilippines The HONOR X9d 5G just pulled off the ultimate flex 🤯 — dropped, smashed, even run over by a Tesla Cybertruck… and it still survived! 💪 With media, creators, and the unstoppable Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto (JoshLia) hyping it up during HONOR’s recent Experiential Day, the #AllAngleUltraDefense phone proved it’s tougher than the spotlight. 🌟🔥 👉 www.revu.com.ph #RevuDotComDotPH #HONORX9d5G #TheToughestPhone @HONOR Philippines @monch @Alora Uy Guerrero ♬ original sound – REVU Philippines
Captured: HONOR X9d 5G Experiential Day
We’ve seen phones get dropped, drowned, and frozen before. But watching JoshLia use a smartphone for a cornhole shot or slinging it across a studio is a different kind of entertainment. And then there was the “car-pull runover.” Yes, they actually drove the stainless-steel behemoth that is the Cybertruck over the HONOR X9d 5G.
And the result? The smartphone survived.
“The past three years gave us a strong foundation, and we are excited that achievement proves we’re capable of pushing boundaries and delivering even more,” says HONOR Philippines vice president Stephen Cheng. “What we did with the HONOR X9d 5G and the Tesla Cybertruck is just a preview of what’s to come. You should all watch out for the grand launch this coming Jan. 9.”
This stunt follows a week of viral posts from internet personalities like Malupiton and KaMangyan Vlogs, who have been hyping up the device since its New Year’s Day reveal. But seeing the phone withstand the weight of a Cybertruck (which, for the record, weighs nearly 3,000 kg) puts a tangible metric on that “Ultra Defense” marketing speak.

For those catching up, the HONOR X9d 5G isn’t just a tough brick; it’s shaping up to be a spec monster. As we noted in our previous report, the device is expected to pack a huge 8,300mAh silicon-carbon battery and run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 processor. Combined with an IP69K rating — which means it can handle high-pressure, high-temperature water jets — this model seems built specifically for the chaos of daily life in the Philippines.
We’re still waiting on the official local price, but if the HONOR X9d 5G can survive a Tesla and still scroll through TikTok afterwards, it might just be the most practical upgrade of the year.
