Xiaomi has expanded its performance-focused line in China with the launch of the REDMI Turbo 5 Max, along with the REDMI Turbo 5. After weeks of teasers, this new model arrives as an endurance-focused powerhouse.

The REDMI Turbo 5 Max is already available for purchase in its home market, sporting a variety of distinct color options that includes Auspicious Cloud White, Ocean Blue, Sunshine Orange, and Shadow Black. Pricing starts at a competitive ¥2,499 (roughly P21,192 or $360 converted) for the base model with 12GB of physical RAM and 256GB of internal storage, scaling up to ¥3,099 (P26,279 or $445) for the top-tier 16GB/512GB configuration.

We’re still waiting for a global announcement from Xiaomi, but early industry whispers suggest this REDMI could hit international markets later this year rebranded as the POCO X8 Pro Max. For context, the current POCO X7 Pro launched in the Philippines with a starting price of P16,999 ($290).

Under the hood, the REDMI Turbo 5 Max earns the distinction of being the first smartphone powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500s. To understand where it fits in the hierarchy, the 3nm chip is essentially a “plus” version of the Dimensity 9400. It features a slightly higher clock speed for its primary Cortex-X925 performance core but uses slightly downgraded memory support compared to the Dimensity 9400.

The octa-core setup — consisting of one Cortex-X925, three Cortex-X4, and four Cortex-A720 cores — is paired with an Immortalis-G925 MC12 GPU and a MediaTek NPU 890. This configuration positions the Dimensity 9500s just below the flagship Dimensity 9500 in MediaTek’s current roster, offering a high-performance alternative for “flagship killer” devices.

As expected, the REDMI Turbo 5 Max runs Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 on top of Android 16 out of the box. To prevent the hardware from throttling under load, the chassis incorporates a massive surface vapor chamber for better thermals.

Another clear standout of the REDMI Turbo 5 Max

The other clear standout here is the huge 9,000mAh battery, a capacity that effectively turns the phone into a pocket-sized power bank. To manage this sheer volume of juice, Xiaomi equipped the unit with its proprietary P3 fast-charging and G1 battery management silicon, enabling 100-watt wired charging and 27-watt wired reverse charging for powering up accessories or other handsets.

For optics, the rear array features a 50-megapixel Light Fusion 600 main sensor with optical image stabilization and an 8-megapixel ultrawide unit, while the front-facing camera packs a 20-megapixel sensor.

Up front, the REDMI Turbo 5 Max sports a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED screen offering a 120Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 3,500 nits, 480Hz touch sampling, and support for HDR10 Plus as well as Dolby Vision. Security is handled by an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint reader rather than the standard optical variety.
