HONOR Magic V6 initial review REVU Philippines

HONOR Magic V6 first impressions: A ruggedized foldable built for (travel) chaos

Foldables often feel less like everyday gadgets and more like delicate instruments you have to handle with care. They’re the “fine china” of the smartphone world — gorgeous to look at, but always shadowed by that uneasy thought that one drop or one drizzle could turn your cutting-edge marvel into a very expensive regret.

Then there’s the HONOR Magic V6.

We’ve been living with this foldable as our daily driver through a travel saga that can only be described as a logistical fever dream. Coming from the Philippines, the plan was simple: Land in Barcelona, Spain, for Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026. Reality was anything but. Thirty minutes before touching down in Doha, airspace closures forced a U-turn that rerouted us to Karachi, Pakistan. Fast forward, and we’re now sitting in Bangkok, Thailand, waiting for a flight home. Through the humidity, the frantic rebooking, and the stress of constant detours, the Magic V6 hasn’t just survived; it has thrived — and depending on its eventual price, it could prove to be the most practical foldable yet.

That sturdiness isn’t accidental. HONOR is leaning hard into the toughness narrative this year, and thankfully it’s more than marketing spin. The Magic V6 stands alone as the only foldable currently boasting both IP68 and IP69 ratings. In practice, that means it’s not just splash-resistant but also certified to handle full immersion and even high‑pressure water jets.

The durability story continues with its 2800MP pia Super Steel hinge, which the company claims is the strongest special steel ever used in a consumer device. To prove the point, it staged a “Zipline Challenge” where the phone literally supported the weight of a person crossing a lake. We didn’t attempt to do that ourselves, but the hinge and frame feel impressively solid, giving the HONOR Magic V6 a density and confidence that’s rare in something this thin.

Watch the Zipline Challenge!

If you’ve seen the Magic V5, the V6 will look familiar — but it’s the sharpened version of that formula. It’s incrementally slimmer, measuring just 4mm when unfolded and 8.75mm folded (for the White variant).

It’s the ergonomic refinements that make the difference. Buttons have been repositioned for easier one‑handed use, while the power key now doubles as both a fingerprint reader and an Action Button. The result is a foldable that feels less like a science experiment and more like a polished flagship.

The screens are some of the best we’ve seen in the ultra-premium segment. Open it up and you’re greeted by a 7.95‑inch LTPO 2.0 panel that can hit 5,000 nits of peak brightness. Fold it down, and the outer 6.52‑inch display somehow pushes that even further, reaching 6,000 nits. Both support 4320Hz PWM dimming, which makes a real difference for eye comfort, especially during those long, unexpected layovers in Karachi when you’re staring at your phone far more than you’d like.

And it’s not just about brightness. The brand has toughened up the displays, too. They’re built to resist scratches, wear, and glare. The Magic V6 leads the pack with a reportedly low-reflection rate of just 1.5% and industry‑high wear resistance. The inner screen uses UTG glass with special low‑reflectivity coatings, so you get clear visuals without worrying about every bump or scuff along the way.

The two panels support HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, with adaptive refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz. That means smoother scrolling and better battery efficiency during static content like reading.

As someone still carrying an HONOR Magic V3, the jump to the V6 feels dramatic, particularly on the camera front. The triple rear setup — 50‑megapixel wide with optical image stabilization, 64‑megapixel telephoto offering 3x optical zoom, and 50‑megapixel ultrawide — delivers sharper shots, cleaner low‑light performance, and zoomed images that actually hold detail instead of smearing. Video capture tops out at 8K 30fps or 4K 120fps, with HDR10+ recording supported. Stabilization held up well even during shaky airport transfers. It’s a clear step up from what we’re used to day‑to‑day.

A few sample shots

We haven’t had the chance to compare it directly with the Magic V5, but V3 owners like us will notice the difference immediately. And with 20‑megapixel selfie cameras on both the inner and outer displays, video calls feel natural whether the phone is folded or open, a thoughtful touch that makes the foldable form factor really useful.

Performance-wise, the HONOR Magic V6 doesn’t hold back. Under the hood, it’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 — a 3nm powerhouse with two Prime cores clocked at 4.61GHz. Paired with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage, it breezed through our frantic multi‑tab flight searches without breaking a sweat.

On Geekbench 6, the processor posts scores north of 2,200 single‑core and 7,000 multi‑core, respectively, putting it ahead of most slab flagships.

As the first foldable powered by Qualcomm’s most premium chipset, the technology giant likely has some specialized hardware keeping thermals in check. We’ll have more to say about performance in the full review.

Battery muscle on full display

Battery life is where HONOR really flexes, at least on paper. The 6,660mAh silicon‑carbon cell uses next‑gen chemistry with 25% silicon content, packing more energy into a slimmer chassis. We haven’t had the chance to put it through the kind of rigorous testing we’d normally do with a review unit, but even in our limited use it held up well.

HONOR rates the Magic V6 for up to two full days of mixed use, and in heavy scenarios like streaming or navigation, you’re looking at roughly 12 to 14 hours of screen‑on time. That 80-watt wired charging gets you to 50% in about 20 minutes, while a full charge takes under an hour. Even wireless charging at 66 watts tops it up in about an hour, which is unusually fast for a foldable. With charging this quick, we weren’t tethered to airport wall outlets for long; a quick top‑up during a layover was more than enough to keep us going.

Of course, raw endurance is only half the story. HONOR is also leaning on software and AI to make the Magic V6 feel smarter and more useful day‑to‑day.

Its AI Meeting Agent automatically transcribes calls, while AI Eraser cleans up photobombs in seconds. Combined with Google Gemini integration, the smartphone feels like one of the most AI‑forward foldables yet. Software ties it all together. Running MagicOS 10 on Android 16, HONOR is clearly eyeing the “Apple‑curious.” With HONOR Connect, you can sync notifications across your iPhone, iPad, and even Apple Watch. It’s a smart acknowledgment that most of us live in multi‑device ecosystems rather than locking ourselves into just one brand.

So our early verdict?

The HONOR Magic V6 isn’t trying to reinvent the foldable wheel. Instead, it’s proving that a foldable can be your only phone — not because of the novelty of a big screen, but because it’s finally as durable, long‑lasting, and powerful as any mainstream flagship.

It survived our detour through Pakistan and Thailand. If it can handle that, it can probably handle whatever your week throws at you.
