After months of prototypes, teasers, and a high-profile cameo during the 2026 FIFA World Cup celebrations, HONOR is finally putting a date on its wildest experiment yet. The aptly named HONOR Robot Phone will officially launch on Aug. 12.

If you’ve been suffering from smartphone design fatigue, this might be the jolt you need. We are no longer just talking about software stabilization or slightly larger camera bumps; the company has literally bolted a miniature robotic arm onto a handset.

HONOR shared a new official teaser poster on its Chinese social media platforms, confirming the August date and giving us a clean look at the hardware. In the image, a chunky, silver, mechanical gimbal module rises from the top edge of the device. The poster greets users with “Hi! New friend,” alongside the unmistakable blue logo of ARRI, the legendary German cinema camera manufacturer.

A literal gimbal in your pocket

Smartphone brands partnering with heritage camera companies (think Leica, Hasselblad, and Zeiss) is standard industry practice at this point. But the ARRI collaboration feels like a different beast entirely. ARRI doesn’t just do color science filters, but also builds the heavy-duty rigs used on huge Hollywood film sets.

Here, that expertise is being shrunk down into a 3-axis mechanical gimbal. HONOR claims this is the industry’s smallest 4DoF [degrees of freedom] motor system, reducing traditional motor size by 70%. It’s not just a camera that pops out; it moves with you.

According to the teasers and leaks we’ve seen so far, the Robot Phone leans heavily into what HONOR calls “Embodied AI.” Instead of you fighting to keep a moving subject in the center of your frame, the unit physically does it for you. The key features include:

• AI Object Tracking: Double-tap a subject on the screen, and the gimbal will physically pan and tilt to keep them dead center, anticipating movement trajectories in milliseconds.
• AI Spinshot: The mechanical arm can perform sweeping 90-degree and 180-degree cinematic rolls automatically, turning standard pans into Hollywood-style shots.
• A new way to shoot: Live images of the camera interface show that HONOR has ditched the traditional shutter button for video, replacing it with an on-screen joystick to manually control the robotic lens.

There’s also a touch of whimsy to the design. HONOR says the robotic arm can “nod” its head to the rhythm of your music or physically react to provide real-time emotional body language during AI video calls.

Flagship power under the hood

While the mechanical camera is the obvious star of the show, the rest of the spec sheet appears to be appropriately high-end to handle all that motorized processing.

Leaks point to the HONOR Robot Phone running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, paired with a battery hovering around the 6,000mAh mark to keep that mechanical motor fed. The display is rumored to be a 6.3- to 6.4-inch panel with a 1.5K resolution.

As for the optics housed inside that gimbal? Current rumors suggest a 200-megapixel main sensor on the gimbal itself, flanked by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide and a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens.

Gimmick or the new standard?
