Whether you’re taking an important business call while navigating Metro Manila traffic or catching up with loved ones from a busy restaurant, background noise can easily get in the way of a good conversation. Smart Communications, through its premium postpaid brand Smart Infinity, aims to change that with PureVoice. It’s an AI-powered feature that filters out ambient noise during regular voice calls, helping members enjoy clearer conversations wherever they are.

One of PureVoice’s key advantages is that its noise cancellation isn’t dependent on a smartphone’s built-in audio hardware. This allows Smart Infinity members to enjoy enhanced call clarity across a wider range of devices, without needing specialized microphones or additional processing capabilities.

Getting started is just as straightforward. There’s no need to install an app or navigate complicated settings. Members can simply use their phone’s dialpad to activate or deactivate the feature during a call. Here’s what you need to know:

  • No apps required: PureVoice works without downloading a third-party application or going through additional setup.
  • Simple activation: To turn AI noise cancellation on or off, simply press 8# on your dialpad during an active call.
  • Exclusive early access: PureVoice is currently available to Smart Infinity subscribers, with Smart confirming plans to roll out the service to more subscribers soon.

With internet-based messaging platforms like Messenger, WhatsApp, and Telegram dominating everyday communication, improving traditional cellular calls might seem like a relatively small upgrade. However, regular voice calls remain essential for important conversations, from business discussions and personal catch-ups to urgent matters that require a reliable connection.

“Voice remains the quintessential service of any telecommunications company,” said Lloyd R. Manaloto, first vice president and officer-in-charge of Smart. “While the way people communicate continues to evolve, the need for reliable, clear, and seamless conversations remains fundamental. Through PureVoice, we are modernizing voice communications and bringing it into the 5G era.”

The launch also builds on Smart’s ongoing network modernization efforts. In 2020, the telco completed its rollout of Voice over LTE (VoLTE), allowing subscribers to enjoy high-quality voice calls while continuing to use mobile data during conversations. Smart also enabled Video over LTE (ViLTE), letting users make video calls directly through their phone’s native dialer without relying on third-party applications.

More recently, the company highlighted its call quality performance in tests conducted by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) in Metro Manila. According to Smart, it recorded zero dropped calls during the regulator’s latest quality-of-service tests, meeting the prescribed threshold and outperforming other service providers.

Of course, we’ll have to see how well PureVoice performs in particularly noisy environments. Still, the idea is promising. If Smart can effectively filter out the chaos around you with a simple keypad shortcut, staying connected through traditional voice calls could become much less frustrating.
