It’s Christmas in November for some folks: Cherry Mobile Flare X owners can now download the official Android Lollipop update for their beloved, bang-for-the-money smartphone. And while the update may have taken some time to develop, it’s finally here, and just in time to give users more reasons to cheer as the year draws to a close.

You can download the update here. I’ve uploaded it to a faster mirror. If that link doesn’t work, you can download it from the source link. Unfortunately, details of the update have yet to be revealed, but judging from the fairly huge download (1GB), expect to see a lot of changes.

Cherry Mobile Flare X owners can now download the official Android Lollipop update for their beloved smartphone.

A few notes before you get to downloading the Android Lollipop update:

1. The upgrade isn’t available over-the-air yet, meaning you’ll need to manually install it. No worries, though; Pinoy Tech Blog has put together a detailed tutorial on how to pull it off. The process should be familiar to anyone who has flashed an update.zip file using the stock recovery.

2. You’ll need a microSD card for the guide to be useful and a means to transfer the Lollipop update file to that SD card (I suggest connecting the Flare X to a Windows-based desktop or laptop).

3. Your phone needs sufficient battery life to proceed with the upgrade process. As always, anything above 50 percent is recommended.

4. Your device should be running the latest Android KitKat build, and it should have the stock recovery installed. If your device is rooted, you”ll have to restore it to factory condition first.

Let me know in the comments below if you hit any snags with the update process. Happy flashing!
