Samsung has unveiled a new entry-level smartphone for the world’s second-largest mobile market. The new Samsung Galaxy J2 (2018) is now official in India.

The Galaxy J2 (2018) is now available in retail with a wallet-friendly price tag of ₹8,190 (P6,356 or $123). Black, gold, and pink are the color options to choose from.

Besides the low price, one of the highlights is the Samsung Mall app, which uses artificial intelligence to help you buy products online using a smartphone camera. It’s a nifty tool that might make people more likely to purchase items from e-commerce platforms, as opposed to going through all the troubles of buying them from a physical store.

The phone’s outward appearance is nothing special, although the front panel does rock an AMOLED display instead of LCD. That’s good news if you’re looking for a pocketable screen to stream videos on, because AMOLEDs tend to be brighter and more colorful. The screen measures 5 inches across, and it’s still at the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio.

Inside, the Samsung Galaxy J2 (2018) sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor mated to 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. The chip supports 4G LTE for faster mobile data speeds where available.

In the camera department, you’ll find an 8-megapixel back-facing camera and 5 megapixels on the front. The battery tops out at 2,600mAh capacity. The Galaxy J2 (2018) will also ship with Samsung’s custom interface based on Android Nougat, and not the latest Android Oreo. Bummer.

In the Philippines, the company’s latest J series phone release is the P7,490 (about $145) Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro (2018), which first hit store shelves in early February 2018.
