Vivo has quietly announced a new phone for the Philippines’ attractive mid-market segment. Say hello to the new Vivo Y85.

The phone is priced at P13,999 (around $267) in the country of over 100 million people, of which an estimated 30 million are smartphone users. According to an image posted by the company on social media, the Vivo Y85 features a sizable 6.2-inch display featuring a notch at the top; dual cameras around the back; fingerprint and face unlock; and Android 8.1 Oreo on MediaTek’s newest mid-tier processor in the Helio P22.

From the outside, the Y85 looks like the Vivo V9, with its taller screen ratio of 19:9 and vertical camera setup consisting of 13- and 2-megapixel cameras. It’s the secondary sensor that feeds depth information to the main one, which results in pictures with a crisp foreground and blurred background. The front-facing camera in the notch has 8 megapixels and is assisted by artificial intelligence or AI to produce selfies with fewer blemishes and more radiance.

The Vivo Y85 keeps the latest octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 under the hood. It’s so new, in fact, that this phone might very well be the first to carry it.

According to the semiconductor company’s website, the processor uses a 12nm production process and is bolstered by PowerVR GE8320 graphics and MediaTek’s CorePilot Technology, which allows for better performance while keeping battery usage in check. Connectivity options on the Helio P22 include Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, and GPS with Glonass compatibility.
