The next Samsung Galaxy to hit stores might not have two or three but four — yes, four — cameras in total.

Samsung has announced “A Galaxy Event” on October 11 for a new Galaxy device or series of devices, merely months after revealing the Galaxy Note 9 flagship smartphone. The launch will be livestreamed here at 5 p.m. Philippine time on that day.

Invitation to Samsung's A Galaxy Event launch scheduled for October 11 on Revu Philippines

What could the A Galaxy Event be? Could it be a about a new A series phone with four cameras or four times magnification for optical zoom?

The surprise announcement, which was originally posted on Samsung’s website, suggests a new A series phone with four cameras or four times magnification for optical zoom, as it also mentions “4x fun.”

Our money is on the Galaxy A8 successor — likely the Samsung Galaxy A9 (and Galaxy A9+) — though the timing is a bit strange. The Korean manufacturer has historically debuted Galaxy A-branded handsets in January, or weeks before the announcement of the new Galaxy S model.

Samsung’s current line of Galaxy A devices includes the Galaxy A6, A6+, A8, and A8+. The most number of cameras found in these handsets is three. It would make sense that the next phone (or phones?) in the range features four cameras instead of three — two on the front and two on the back.

However, we also wouldn’t discount the possibility of seeing a Samsung smartphone with four times zoom, as some of its devices already have two times hybrid zoom. We’ll see.

For now, we’re fairly certain of one thing: This latest development has piqued our collective interest. Let’s hope that Samsung won’t let us down.
