Ready for more phone announcements? Vivo Philippines has revealed that the Vivo Y81i is already available nationwide for P7,999 (roughly $149), making it the company’s most affordable notched smartphone locally.

The previous titleholder is the Y81, which was priced at P9,999 ($186) at launch but now costs P8,999 ($168). It looks the same as the Y81i model, from the 6.2-inch screen to the back design; you’d be hard-pressed to tell the difference between the two.

The change really lies underneath the hood. Instead of the Vivo Y81’s MediaTek Helio P22 processor, the Vivo Y81i gets a new but lower-end MediaTek 6761 chip. Instead of 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native memory, the latest Vivo device only has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage.

The Vivo Y81i is a more wallet-friendly variant of the Y81.

Yes, those are compromises for people whose budget may be lower than P8,000. The Vivo Y81i is not for power users, too. The phone should be enough for the kind that always checks social media, takes a lot of pictures, and watches videos.
