OPPO has been teasing the return of the upper-midrange R series — a photography-focused lineup — to the Philippines. The company hasn’t said anything about which phone from the line will be landing on our shores, but a post of one of its bosses indicates that the OPPO R17 Pro could be the or one of the devices we’re looking at.

(Updated, November 4: As we reported after this, the OPPO R17 Pro is confirmed to launch on November 7 in the Philippines. Read Hands-on review: 72 hours with the OPPO R17 Pro in China.)

On Facebook, OPPO Philippines vice president for marketing Jane Wan shared a picture of the R17 Pro’s box. In case you didn’t know, the box of the regular R17 is colored white, unlike the Pro model’s blue shade.

OPPO R17 Pro teased on Facebook, implying that it’s the or one of the R series phones that will be released in the Philippines

Of course, this doesn’t mean that the OPPO R17 won’t be made available in the Philippines as well. It’s just that the smartphone that has been teased first is the higher-specced one.

The R17 Pro is OPPO’s first handset with a triple-sensor rear camera. The primary shooter is 12 megapixels with variable f/1.5 to f/2.4 aperture lens. The second camera has 20 megapixels and f/2.6 lens, while the third has 3D depth-mapping capabilities. For taking selfies, there’s a 25-megapixel front-facing camera in the waterdrop notch on top of the screen with an under-display fingerprint sensor.

We’re excited about the OPPO R17 Pro because Super VOOC charging, which promises a 40-percent charge in 10 minutes using the supplied 50-watt power brick, will finally be accessible to more consumers. Besides the R17 Pro, only the OPPO Find X Lamborghini Edition features the charging technology, which is the fastest in the industry now.

In China, the special-edition Find X is priced at ¥9,999 (roughly P78,762 or $1,478) while the higher-end R17 model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is retailing at ¥4,299 (P33,574 or $621). OPPO Philippines may release something with a lower memory configuration to bring the cost down.
