As expected, OPPO today formally announced its first triple-sensor camera phone for the Philippine market. The OPPO R17 Pro is now official in the country, after weeks of teasing and individual feature reveals, and will be available on November 24.

Locally, the R17 Pro is priced at P38,990 (around $738) for the model with 8GB RAM and 128GB of native storage. Preorders begin tomorrow, November 8, until the 23rd, with early buyers eligible for a free bundle worth P2,990 ($57).

You can also get the smartphone from local operator Globe Telecom through a postpaid plan starting at P2,499 ($47) per month. Other financing options include Home Credit’s 15- and 18-month installment terms and zero-interest plans from BDO of up to 24 months.

Radiant Mist is the only color on offer, though there’s certainly nothing wrong with not having choices this time around; the gradient finish on the glass backing of the OPPO R17 Pro is edgy, gorgeous and different. It doesn’t pick up fingerprints and smudges too easily as well.

Its triple-rear-camera system and flashy coloring aside, the phone is also equipped with the company’s first in-screen sensor for fingerprint unlocking, though you can still unlock it with your face using the front-facing camera.

The R17 Pro is also one of the first devices to get OPPO’s new Super VOOC charging for top-ups up to five times the speed of standard 10-watt adapters. In our testing, we found that just 20 minutes of charging would take us to a 75-percent battery. Adding another 10 minutes would result in an almost-full charge, something we’ve yet to see other phones do.

The three-camera setup on the back features a 12-megapixel primary camera with a variable aperture of f/1.5 and f/2.4 like the Samsung Galaxy S9+ and Galaxy Note 9 flagship devices. It’s actually handy in situations when you need to take a decent picture in low light or at night.

The secondary 20-megapixel camera provides extra detail and depth information in portrait shots, while the third option is there to capture 3D images of an object or person. The selfie camera is 25 megapixels.

Inside, the OPPO R17 Pro packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor and two 1,850mAh batteries for a total of 3,700mAh. It runs ColorOS 5.2 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.
