Many manufacturers have tried in recent years with mixed or varying degrees of success, and the latest attempt comes from global technology brand HONOR, which recently concluded its Unfold Tomorrow keynote session at IFA 2023 in Berlin, Germany.

The HONOR V Purse is an outward-folding concept phone that’s also intended to be a purse-slash-handbag, complete with interchangeable straps and chains that allow you to carry it around and flaunt among your friends and peers.

If that sounds bonkers to you, consider that the HONOR V Purse’s external screen can show AOD wallpapers that mimic a variety of purse or handbag designs and textures. The wallpapers, which were made in collaboration with different artists and fashion designers, even react to the user’s touches and movements courtesy of built-in sensors, including an accelerometer to help track motion more accurately in real time.

Perhaps more impressively, the HONOR V Purse is slimmer than the average smartphone, thinner than the previously announced HONOR Magic V2 foldable, measuring just 9mm at its thickest point when folded. And did we mention that the smartphone is built using sustainable materials, too, even using vegan leather for some of its parts?

With its foldable concept, the company hopes it can encourage the fashion industry to embrace new technologies and convince consumers to buy less clothes and accessories, and instead use devices like this concept model to update any existing outfit.

HONOR has yet to disclose the Purse’s specs, although its hinge is said to be durable enough to withstand the same 400,000 folds as the Magic V2. Its pricing and availability — in case it does get released anytime soon — haven’t been revealed either.
