Globe, Smart iPhone 15 postpaid plans compared

Following the launch of the Apple iPhone 15 series preorders in the Philippines, local telecommunication companies have announced their respective postpaid plans for the latest iPhone. So if you’re thinking of upgrading the iPhone 15 with a data plan from either Globe Telecom or Smart Communications, you’ve come to the right place.

The list of available plans for each starting configuration of the Apple iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max can be found below, with the exception of Globe’s GPlan 4999, which is overkill for any base iPhone model.

Globe offers greater flexibility, whether you’re after a low monthly payment plan with GPlan 599 or unlimited data with GPlan 3799. The caveat here is that lower-tier subscriptions are bundled with fewer data. Frankly, we don’t see the point of owning an iPhone with only 2GB, 3GB, or even 5GB of monthly data allocated to the device, especially if you plan on streaming TikToks and YouTube videos while you’re out.

GPlan 999 matches Smart’s data offering at 5GB and comes with 3GB of GoWiFi access where available, along with unlimited text and calls to all mobile numbers. It’s also worth mentioning that GPlan 3799 is bundled with access to the Globe priority network and Thea, the telco’s digital assistant. The latter can be accessed through Facebook Messenger and provides assistance and concierge servicing to Platinum subscribers.

Smart iPhone 15 postpaid plans

Taking a more streamlined approach, Smart offers Device Plans from Plan 999 all the way up to Plan 2999 for new applications, as well as existing subscribers who want to renew their current plan or get another one. As expected, all four iPhone 15 models — the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max — are available from Smart.

New subscribers have to pay the same cash-out amount or opt for a down payment of P21,000 (around $370) and then P900 ($16) each month after the initial deposit for the iPhone 15. As usual, the lock-in is 24 months. Renewals for the base model start at Device Plan 999, with a one-time payment of P41,700 ($734) or monthly installment of P1,738 ($31) on top of their chosen data plan.

Device Plan 999 comes with 5GB of monthly data, plus unlimited texts and mobile calls to all networks and 50 minutes of calls to PLDT landline numbers. Choosing Device Plan 1999 or 2999 will net you 15GB or 30GB of data, respectively, in addition to bigger allocations for PLDT calls.

Which iPhone 15 postpaid plan is for you?

Looking at the table, it’s pretty obvious that Smart is offering huge subsidies with its Device Plan 1499 for all iPhone 15 variants. Its one-time payments are significantly cheaper than those listed under Globe’s GPlan 1499, while offering the same amount of monthly consumable data (10GB). Globe has bigger subsidies for GPlan 999 and GPlan 1999 across the board, but the difference is probably negligible to most iPhone customers. Of course, we think it should still come down to which telco delivers better and more reliable coverage in your area and school or place of work.

There’s also the option to choose a SIM-only plan and buy the latest iPhone from an authorized Apple retailer like Power Mac Center, Beyond the Box, or Digital Walker. This will allow for greater flexibility in the long run if you decide to upgrade to a new phone before your contract ends, or you simply want to switch to another carrier.
