As 2023 draws to a close, Huawei expands its smartphone portfolio by introducing the successor to the Huawei nova 11 series in China.

And while the previous lineup initially had three models, this time, the Huawei nova 12 series consists of four units at launch — the Huawei nova 12 Ultra, nova 12 Pro, nova 12, and nova 12 Lite.

The latter is a tweaked version of the nova 11 and debuts as the only Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G-based phone of the four devices. The Huawei nova 12, on the other hand, uses a new chipset in the Kirin 8000 4G, which is said to feature a 1 + 3 + 4 core arrangement and a Mali G610 GPU.

Taking center stage, as expected, are the Huawei nova 12 Pro and nova 12 Ultra models. The two boast access to 5G, with the Pro reportedly relying on a 5G version of the Kirin 8000 and the Ultra supposedly powered by a new Kirin 9000SL processor. They come with Beidou Satellite Messaging — a first in the nova line — giving them the ability to still send text and location information even if there’s no signal. They have two cameras up front. And their rear camera systems include a physical variable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0.

All four members of the nova 12 family sport a 120Hz screen measuring at least 6.7 inches, support charging of up to 100 watts, and ship with HarmonyOS4 out of the box. As with other nova smartphones, the latest handsets look like they come right out of a fashion magazine. You can compare the specs of each of the model at the end of this article.

In China, the Huawei nova 12 Ultra and Huawei nova 12 Pro are priced from ¥4,699 (around P36,483 or $658) and ¥3,999 (P31,049 or $560), respectively. The Huawei nova 12 and Huawei nova 12 Lite, on the other hand, have respective starting price tags of ¥2,999 (P23,285 or $420) and ¥2,499 (P19,403 or $350). There’s no word yet if the series will be available on global markets, including the Philippines.
