vivo Philippines is starting the year with the launch of the vivo Y27s, an upgraded version of last year’s popular Y series phone, the vivo Y27.

The refresh is already listed on several local retailers, as well as the brand’s official online stores on Lazada and Shopee. For a limited time, those who purchase the vivo Y27s on Lazada and Shopee can get it for only P9,799 (around $175), or P1,200 ($21) less than its P10,999 ($197) retail price on other stores. Curiously, vivo has the Y27s listed for P12,999 ($233), which is quite a sum for a smartphone of this caliber.

In any case, it seems your best bet at getting the best price for the model is through vivo’s official online stores — at least for now. The company will even throw in a free pair of wired earbuds with each purchase while supplies last. In the Philippines, the vivo Y27s is available in Burgundy Black and Garden Green colors and comes with 8GB of physical RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

As usual, the RAM can be expanded up to 8GB via the phone’s dynamic RAM extension feature, which allocates some of the unused internal memory to be used as RAM. Recall that the previous model only had 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The vivo Y27s also comes with an upgraded display, which supports up to a 90Hz refresh rate for a smoother experience and up to 650 nits of peak brightness, making it a bit brighter than last year’s 600-nit panel.

However, the biggest upgrade comes in the form of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 4G chipset, which is built on a power-efficient 6nm process and should provide a lot more firepower compared to the 12nm MediaTek Helio G85 chip featured on the Y27. This, combined with the higher RAM and storage on the Y27s, makes the handset a worthwhile successor and a potentially attractive option in the sub-P10,000 ($179) segment, provided you can buy it at a discount.

The vivo Y27s also retains its predecessor’s biggest attractions, with the phone offering an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance, a 50-megapixel camera at the back, and a 5,000mAh battery that supports 44-watt fast charging. According to the company, the charging speed of the Y27s should be good enough to allow the battery to achieve a 30% charge in just 15 minutes plugged in.
