MediaTek Dimensity 9400e launched to boost on-device AI, gaming

MediaTek has announced the MediaTek Dimensity 9400e, a new entry to its flagship Dimensity mobile-processor family.

While the name suggests it sits just below the top-tier Dimensity 9400 Plus and regular Dimensity 9400, this new chip is more of a refresh; it’s essentially last year’s Dimensity 9300 Plus with some minor tweaks and an entirely different designation.

Under the hood, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400e sports the same powerful “All Big Core” configuration as the Dimensity 9300 Plus. This means you get one prime Cortex-X4 CPU core clocked at 3.4GHz, three performance Cortex-X4 cores running at 2.85GHz, and four efficiency Cortex-A720 cores at 2.0GHz for basic tasks. It supports speedy LPDDR5X memory up to 8533MHz and includes 8MB of L3 cache.

For graphics processing, it relies on the familiar 12-core Immortalis-G720 MC12 GPU, which still brings hardware-accelerated ray tracing for demanding mobile games. Additionally, the Dimensity 9400e also incorporates MediaTek’s HyperEngine and Adaptive Gaming technologies, designed to optimize performance for smooth gameplay while keeping power consumption in check. A particularly interesting feature added is a native frame-rate converter. The company claims this can deliver a significant power saving of up to 40% when enabled during gaming sessions.

Of course, the 9400e chip is designed to be really good at handling AI tasks. Using MediaTek’s latest AI tools, it lets your smartphone run AI features faster and more securely because the work happens right on the device, instead of sending your data elsewhere.

It also boasts a special technology inside, known as SpD+, which is built specifically to speed up how the chip processes Large Language Models or LLMs. Think of LLMs as the brains behind chatbots, text generators, and other tools that understand and process human language. What this means for you is that the MediaTek Dimensity 9400e can run many popular and powerful AI models, such as Gemini Nano and Llama7B and 8B, directly on your phone.

Besides the OnePlus Ace5 Racing Edition, the realme GT 7 will also be powered by the new MediaTek Dimensity 9400e

So, when can you expect to see this chip in action? Pretty soon. Sister brands OnePlus and realme have already announced upcoming smartphones featuring the MediaTek Dimensity 9400e. OnePlus will use it in the OnePlus Ace5 Racing Edition for the Chinese market, while realme is putting it into their gaming-focused realme GT 7. Both devices are expected to launch within the month.
