The waiting game is almost over. We already knew realme was packing some serious hardware into its latest Number Series when it debuted globally earlier this year. Now, the brand has confirmed that the entire trio — the realme 16 Pro Plus 5G, the realme 16 Pro 5G, and the realme 16 5G — is officially making its way to the Philippines.
The local launch is scheduled for April 23 at 5:30 p.m. via a livestream on realme’s official Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube pages. Here is what you need to know before the covers officially come off.
Tactile design, engineered for strength
The design language this year, dubbed “Urban Wild,” is a collaboration with Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa. The top-tier realme 16 Pro Plus 5G arrives in a Master Gold colorway, sporting a bio-based silicone back derived from plant-based straw. It is soft, polished, and resistant to dirt.
The realme 16 Pro 5G drops the vegan leather feel for Pebble Grey and Orchid Purple. Meanwhile, the standard realme 16 5G strips things back with a minimalist “Air” aesthetic in Black and White, swapping the Pro’s rounded square camera bump for a horizontal strip that houses a neat little selfie mirror.
Underneath the aesthetics, the Pro models are built like tanks. As we noted in our previous coverage, they boast an IP69 rating. It is technically designed to withstand high-pressure water jets, but more importantly, it means you won’t have to panic when you get caught out in a sudden, torrential downpour.
Optical zoom makes a comeback
The realme 16 Pro Plus 5G puts its 200-megapixel main camera front and center, backed by optical image stabilization for steadier shots, alongside an 8-megapixel ultra-wide and a 50-megapixel front shooter.
The highlight is the 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom. When we covered the Gilas Pilipinas vs. Australia FIBA game last month, true optical reach made all the difference in capturing clean, detailed shots from the stands. The Pro Plus model also features a TÜV Rheinland-certified LumaColor Image Camera, designed to balance lighting and render natural skin tones.

If you don’t need the periscope, the realme 16 Pro 5G keeps the 200-megapixel OIS main camera and the 8-megapixel ultra-wide. The base realme 16 5G, on the other hand, handles everyday photography with a reliable 50-megapixel Sony IMX852 main sensor and a 50-megapixel selfie camera.
A battery that lasts
While the cameras grab the headlines, the realme 16 Series 5G is powered by a large 7,000mAh “Titan” battery. It is a welcome leap over the industry’s stagnant 5,000mAh standard and a significant bump up from the realme 15 5G generation. Paired with 80-watt wired charging, a 144Hz AMOLED display, and either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 (Pro Plus) or a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Max (Pro), these smartphones are engineered to chew through heavy multitasking and marathon mobile gaming sessions without needing a midday top-up.
We will be tuning in to the livestream on April 23 to see how the local prices shake out. If the numbers are right, the midrange segment is about to get very competitive.
