Battery anxiety is a very real thing, but TECNO is seemingly trying to cheat physics to fix it. The brand has officially launched the TECNO POVA Curve 2 5G in the Philippines today, bringing its much-hyped mega-battery smartphone to local shores. We already have a unit in hand, so expect our full video review to drop soon.

If you’ve been following our coverage since the global launch, you already know the headline: This phone manages to cram an 8,000mAh battery inside a chassis that’s just 7.42mm thin and weighs a mere 195 grams. That footprint officially makes it the slimmest 5G AI phone out there to house an 8,000mAh cell. Starting today, May 23, the TECNO POVA Curve 2 5G is available at retail stores with an official suggested retail price of ₱16,999 (roughly $275) for the 16GB RAM (8GB physical, plus 8GB extended) and 256GB storage configuration.

For those who prefer to just add to cart, an online first sale kicks off on May 26 exclusively via TikTok Shop. Early adopters are looking at some solid freebies, including a TECNO Gift Box and a customized Globe 5G SIM pre-loaded with a year of unlimited 5G and data.

TECNO Mobile Philippines’ announcement

Unstoppable power in a slim package

That 8,000mAh cell isn’t just for flexing on spec sheets. TECNO claims the battery can push up to three days of typical use, breaking down to around 18.8 hours of continuous gaming or an absurd 103.4 hours of music playback. When you inevitably drain it, 45-watt fast charging gets you back up to 50% in roughly 36 minutes.

Hardcore gamers and binge-watchers get a genuine quality-of-life upgrade with Bypass Charging 2.0. Instead of constantly cycling through the battery, this feature lets the TECNO POVA Curve 2 5G draw power straight from the wall. It keeps thermals in check during high-load sessions and preserves your battery’s long-term health. In a pinch, the device can even double as a power bank thanks to its 10-watt reverse wired charging capabilities.

Built for the commute

We’ve all hit those frustrating dead zones in crowded LRT tunnels or deep inside Makati’s underground parking lots. To combat this, the POVA Curve 2 5G runs a dedicated dual-chip system: TECNO’s own G1 signal chip and the SE1 Wi-Fi chip. Paired with upgraded 20-band 5G support, the company claims you’ll see a 33% drop in network latency and a 70% boost in upload speeds compared to its predecessor.

Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by the 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 7100 5G processor, netting an Antutu benchmark score of up to 850,000. The display is a 6.78-inch FHD+ curved AMOLED panel boasting a 144Hz refresh rate. It hits a high peak brightness of 4,500 nits to easily overpower the harsh Philippine sun, and it’s protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.

Rounding out the spec sheet, you get a 50-megapixel main rear camera flanked by a 2-megapixel macro sensor, plus a 13-megapixel front-facing shooter — both capable of recording video at up to 2K resolution. The unit also features Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and IP64 dust and splash resistance.

The TECNO POVA Curve 2 5G ships with HiOS 16 based on Android 16 and is available in three interstellar-themed colorways: Mystic Purple, Melting Silver, and Storm Titanium.
