Taiwanese electronics maker ASUS dropped a welcome surprise at this year’s Computex trade show: the new ASUS Pad with model No. T3201. The launch officially signals the company’s return to the traditional tablet market after a long hiatus.

If you recall, the last true Android slate from the brand belonged to the ZenPad line, released back in 2017. And no, we’re obviously not counting PC convertibles like last year’s fantastic ROG Flow Z13, which we use as our main Windows machine.

ASUS has yet to announce the official price or specify which markets will actually see the new Pad on shelves. That said, we aren’t holding our breath for a Philippine release. Considering how price-conscious the local market is, along with the razor-thin margins players already absorb just to maintain a presence here, bringing in a premium tablet like this might be difficult.

As for the unit itself, the ASUS Pad is built from the ground up as a high-end entry, heavily focused on portability and media consumption. The hardware should feel great in the hand, featuring an ultra-slim 6.5mm profile and weighing a very manageable 523 grams. It’s designed to slide right into your everyday carry without weighing you down, making it ideal for prolonged reading, streaming, or note-taking. This balance of durability and lightness comes courtesy of a magnalium chassis paired with a fiberglass back cover, delivering a rigid frame with zero excess bulk.

The display is another highlight. ASUS boldly calls it a “best-in-class dual-layer OLED” screen. Spanning 12.2 inches with a 2.8K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate, the panel looks stunning. By stacking two OLED emission layers, the architecture achieves significantly better power efficiency and a longer panel lifespan compared to standard single-layer screens. It also cranks up brightness and color consistency — exactly what you want when binging your favorite shows.

Eye comfort hasn’t been sidelined, either. TÜV Rheinland certification guarantees reduced blue light and flicker-free performance to ward off eye strain. ASUS paired that nearly edge-to-edge display, boasting a 92% screen-to-body ratio, with a quad-speaker Dolby Atmos setup. Instead of sounding tinny, the 360-degree audio promises clear dialogue and a wide soundstage, making it a great choice for daily media consumption.

Inside, the ASUS Pad runs on the 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 8300 platform. This sub-flagship processor balances raw performance and power efficiency. Based on our experience with other devices packing the same chipset, it has more than enough horsepower to run modern games at high frame rates and medium-to-high graphics. That efficiency is backed by a generous 9,000mAh battery, giving the tablet plenty of stamina for extended stretches of screen time. And when you do need to plug in, it supports 45-watt fast charging to get you back to 50% in about 30 minutes.

Out of the box, you’re getting Android 16. To stitch everything together, ASUS relies on its GlideX software for seamless cross-device interactions between tablets and PCs. Toss in Google Gemini’s smart productivity features, and the result is a connected, intelligent user experience.
