For years, the idea of a touchscreen MacBook was Apple‘s ultimate forbidden fruit. Not anymore. The Cupertino giant has officially unveiled the all-new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, a machine that finally brings the hands-on fluidity of an iPad to the raw, uncompromising power of a Mac.

This is a major shift for creative professionals. Beyond the long-awaited touch capabilities, the new 14-inch and 16-inch laptops boast a spectacular tandem OLED panel, the addition of the Dynamic Island, and the debut of the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The new MacBook Pro is already available for preorder in the United States ahead of its Nov. 6 retail release. In the Philippines, local availability is still listed as “check back later,” but here’s a breakdown of the official starting prices:

  • 14-inch MacBook Pro (PROLED XDR Display, M5 Pro): Starts at $2,899 / ₱214,990
  • 16-inch MacBook Pro (PROLED XDR Display, M5 Pro): Starts at $3,399 / ₱249,990
  • 14-inch MacBook Pro (PROLED XDR Display, M5 Max): Starts at $4,499 / ₱329,990
  • 16-inch MacBook Pro (PROLED XDR Display, M5 Max): Starts at $4,799 / ₱344,990

If you plan to max out the 16-inch model, be prepared for some serious sticker shock. A fully loaded unit will set you back a jaw-dropping $14,549 in the U.S and ₱1,050,810 in the Philippines. Reaching those prices means configuring every component to its highest tier. That includes the 16-inch tandem OLED PROLED XDR Display with the glare-reducing nano-texture glass finish, the top-tier M5 Max chip with an 18-core CPU and a 40-core GPU, a whopping 128GB of unified memory, and a huge 16TB SSD.

A screen you can touch

The star of the show is the PROLED XDR Display. Using tandem OLED technology — the same dual-layer architecture found in the latest iPad Pros — Apple has achieved 2,000 nits of peak HDR and SDR brightness, along with a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Combined with a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate and an optional nano-texture finish to reduce glare, this could be one of the most impressive displays ever fitted to a laptop.

The biggest change, of course, is that you can finally reach out and tap the screen. After years of resisting the idea, Apple has added full multi-touch support to macOS 27 Golden Gate. You can pinch to zoom in on video timelines, drag and drop assets, and even play virtual instruments directly on the display. Apple has also brought the iPhone’s Dynamic Island to the Mac, integrating notifications, media controls, and Live Activities into the top of the screen, replacing the static notch with something far more interactive.

Desktop-class power, wherever you go

Inside the redesigned, more environmentally conscious chassis — which is significantly thinner and lighter, with the 14-inch model weighing just three pounds — lies Apple’s next-generation silicon. The M5 Pro and M5 Max processors are built to handle demanding workloads, from AI processing and multistream 8K video editing to complex 3D rendering.

As mentioned earlier, these machines can be configured with up to 128GB of unified memory and a large 16TB SSD. Despite all that computing power, battery life remains a priority. Apple promises up to 24 hours on a charge, while fast charging can take the battery to 50% in just 30 minutes.

Connectivity is equally impressive, with three next-generation Thunderbolt 5 ports, Wi-Fi 7, and a six-speaker sound system that delivers 50% deeper bass. Add a new 12-megapixel Center Stage camera, and the touchscreen MacBook Pro looks ready to take its place as Apple’s most capable portable workstation yet.
