Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 quietly announced

Samsung has silently refreshed the Galaxy J7 Prime for 2018, aptly revealing it as the Galaxy J7 Prime 2 in the Indian market.

The update is a minor one — small cosmetic changes on the front and rear panels, along with an improved 13-megapixel selfie camera that packs just as many megapixels at the back. The markings identifying the capacitive navigation buttons look different, while the backing rocks the company’s logo in silver to stand out against the colored body.

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 also arrives with Android Nougat, as opposed to older Android Marshmallow on 2016’s Galaxy J7 Prime. It’s pretty much status quo for the rest of the hardware.

A price tag of ₹13,990 (about P11,275 or $215) has apparently been set for the updated model, which has been listed on Samsung’s Indian website. For comparison, the original Galaxy J7 Prime launched in the Philippines for P13,990 ($267).

There is no official word when the first units will go on sale in the subcontinent. We’re not sure if the Philippines is among the countries Samsung will be targeting next. It does seem rather telling that the J7 Prime currently goes for a discounted price of P10,872 ($208) on Lazada Philippines, although on Samsung’s official Facebook page, it’s at P12,990 ($248).

In regard to other key specs, it seems that the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 will come with a 5.5-inch, 1080p display with a standard aspect ratio (read: 16:9). It would have been nice to see a taller display even at a lower resolution.
