Nokia 7 Plus shows up on Shopee Philippines

We know that the Nokia 7 Plus will be officially announced for the Philippine market on April 13, along with a few other new Nokia devices from Finnish company HMD Global. If the name rings a bell, it’s because HMD Global is the current licensee of the iconic phone brand.

But although we’re only a few days away from its local unveiling, that doesn’t mean you’ll need to wait a while before you can get your hands on the Nokia 7 Plus. We just spotted the phone on e-commerce platform Shopee Philippines, albeit not on an authorized seller’s page.

The version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable memory sells for P20,290, which translates to roughly $391. The one with 6GB of RAM is priced at P22,490 ($433). The merchant notes the item on offer runs Chinese firmware right out of the box.

You can, of course, download and install Google apps onto the phone, but that will require a wee bit of technical savvy. Additionally, the Nokia 7 Plus is expected to offer a near-stock Android Oreo experience, so we assume the number of Chinese bloatware will be kept to a minimum.

As part of the Google’s Android One program, it should get regular software updates and security patches over the next two years as well. All this to say, don’t sweat the software front so much.

Rather, what you should be concerned about is warranty coverage, because this listing doesn’t include local and official coverage from HMD Global. You’re likely on your own if something goes terribly wrong with your purchase.

That aside, the price isn’t terrible, especially considering the 6-inch, 18:9 display and what’s under the hood. Powering the assembly is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, which is an upper-midrange silicon, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. There are two 12-megapixel cameras at the back, while the selfie shooter is 16 megapixels. Rounding out the main specs, you’ve got a 3,800mAh sealed battery.

We’re told HMD Global will make pricing and availability details available for the devices it’s scheduled to launch on Friday. We would hope for a more compelling price than we’ve seen today.
