Meizu has been after the Xiaomi crowd lately. Its flagship devices, the Meizu 16 and 16 Plus, are aimed at the same market as the Mi 8 series — and they were sold out in a few seconds on their first-day online sale in China. The upcoming Meizu 16X powered by a Snapdragon 710, on the other hand, goes after those who might want a Xiaomi Mi 8 SE, the first to launch with the Qualcomm chip.

Meizu CEO Jack Wong claims that the 16X will be better than the Mi 8 SE. But what do we really know about the smartphone besides the processor it’s using?

Meizu CEO Jack Wong says the Meizu 16X will look quite similar to the Meizu 16.

Wong himself has confirmed that the Meizu 16X will look quite similar to the Meizu 16. The display will be Super AMOLED and won’t have a notch — something he says is hard to get because many screens being produced these days have cutouts a la the iPhone X’s. The fingerprint reader will be placed under the display. It will have the Meizu 16’s selfie and dual-rear cameras with optical image stabilization. And there will be dual speakers, too.

However, the Meizu 16X will have a bigger battery than the 16, which only has a 3,010mAh power cell. Good to know.

The Meizu 16 and 16 Plus start from ¥2,698 (around P21,135) and ¥3,198 (P25,051), respectively. We have listed their specs below just so you have an idea how value-for-money they are. Given that the Meizu 16X is well under the two in the hierarchy of the company’s devices, it may just be priced between ¥2,000 (P15,667) and ¥2,500 (P19,584). We’ll see once it becomes official in September.
