Tecno Mobile ends the year with an update to its most premium smartphone series, as it launches the Tecno Phantom X2 Pro and Tecno Phantom X2.

(Update, March 6: Check out the Tecno Phantom X2 Pro and Phantom X2’s pricing and availability details for the Philippine market!)

The unveiling is interesting, because the Pro version debuts as the world’s first-ever commercial phone with a retractable portrait lens, enabled when you choose Portrait mode in the camera app and is housed in a camera ring. The 50-megapixel telescopic portrait lens comes with a large, f/1.49 aperture; a 65mm focal length; and an 18.9cm depth of field.

The main 50-megapixel camera of the Tecno Phantom X2 Pro is a huge, 1/1.3-inch ISOCELL 3.0 sensor from Samsung. Rounding out the imaging setup on the back is a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera that doubles as a macro shooter. A 32-megapixel camera takes care of capturing selfies.

The system on the non-Pro variant, on the other hand, gets a 64-megapixel main camera with a 1/1.3-inch RGBW sensor that’s designed for 160% light intake and a G+P lens for 130% light transmission. The 13-megapixel ultrawide lens also serves as a macro cam. And there’s a 2-megapixel depth sensor, too. Up front is a 32-megapixel shooter.

The rest of the two smartphones’ specs? They’re the same, from the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 5G processor to the 5,160mAh battery with support for 45-watt fast charging.

Technology site Engadget reports that the Tecno Phantom X2 Pro will initially be available in markets like Nigeria, Kenya, India, Colombia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and — drumroll please — the Philippines starting end-December. But we here at Revü happen to know that the regular Tecno Phantom X2 model will be released in the Philippines, too.
