CloudFone unveils cheapest Android 6.0 Marshmallow phones in PH

It’s been a big day for Cellprime, the homegrown cellphone distributor behind the CloudFone brand, as the company today introduced a bevy of new smartphones and tablets under the CloudFone name, plus two mobile brands that might appeal to the mid- to high-end market.

Cellprime has brought back Chinese phone maker Gionee (after a year of non-activity in the Philippines) and also announced a design partnership with Hyundai, which produced the ultra-slim Aero phone (more on the device in a separate post).

For now, let’s focus on two newly announced CloudFone handsets that are the cheapest in the marketplace as far as Android 6.0 Marshmallow devices are concerned. I’m referring to the 2016 iterations of the CloudFone Thrill Lite and Thrill HD, which retail for P1,999 and P2,999, respectively. Both phones make use of a plastic housing that looks like metal and internals that seem about par for the course for their price points.

One of the major differences between the two, as you may have gathered, is that the Thrill HD packs more pixels on the screen and more megapixels on the front and rear cameras compared to its cheaper kin. When it comes to basic operation, not much separates the two, though the extra RAM inside the Thrill HD should help with multitasking and app-loading times. That said, given the not-so-steep difference in price, I’d recommend springing for the upscale variant.

Cellprime also unveiled a special edition CloudFone handset in partnership with Disney (think a sleek-looking mobile paired with a Star Wars or Avengers phone case) that features an Intel Atom X3 processor and a 5.2-inch 720p display with 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass on the front.

The CloudFone Excite Prime, meanwhile, is a Cherry Mobile Flare 4 challenger with a larger 5.5-inch touchscreen and a non-LTE, octa-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz. The former is priced at P4,999, while the latter costs P3,999.

The new CloudFone devices should be available in the coming weeks.
