LOYAL Sony fans who have been dying to know what the Japanese company is up to in the smartphone department, take heart. There’s another report for you this week. A video that supposedly stars a prototype of the 2017 version of the Sony Xperia XA has leaked online.

Take a look at this, and judge for yourself.

This is supposed to be a prototype of the Sony Xperia XA (2017) with the model code GR121

If we are watching the real thing, then it seems that the Sony Xperia XA 2017’s design does not look that different from last year’s model. The bezels on the left and right sides of the smartphone are thin, but the top and bottom are still thick.

We wish Sony had gunned for slimmer bezels all around. That would have made the device more appealing. Then again, this is considered a midrange phone, so perhaps the company will finally implement that in its flagship handset? After all, Sony is rumored to launch five — yes, five — smartphones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, on February 27. And one of the five is said to be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 835 chipset. That should be the most high-end one.

Anyhow, the YouTube user who uploaded the video claims that the Xperia XA 2017 features a 23-megapixel rear camera. That’s up from the 2016 model’s 13-megapixel shooter.

You may have also noticed that the device runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with a January 5, 2017, security patch. Considering that the original XA shipped with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, we are no longer surprised that the upcoming XA will be rocking the latest Android version — as it should be.

No more details were revealed. However, we’re sure more stuff will be leaked in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
