SHOTS fired. Samsung Electronics Philippines has posted today a teaser of a new handset — believed to be the Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro (click for complete specs) — that makes a reference to OPPO’s stable of “selfie expert” smartphones.

While the video does not say what Galaxy phone is landing in the country soon, several indicators show that it’s going to be the Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro. In the clip is a device that looks like the J7 Pro. It was launched in India several days ago, revealing that it will go on sale there for 20,990 Indian rupees (around P16,230 or $326). And this report claims that the smartphone will be available in the Philippines in the first week of July for P15,990 ($321).

If we’re right, then the Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro will go toe to toe with the OPPO F3, which is also retailing at P15,990 after recently getting a P1,000 ($20) price slash.

How do the two differ? Their major differences lie in the camera, chipset, RAM, display, battery, and OS departments.

The Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro and OPPO F3’s major differences lie in the camera, chipset, RAM, display, battery, and OS departments.

The Samsung phone does not have the OPPO F3’s 16- and 8-megapixel selfie cameras, but its 13-megapixel front shooter — what it calls the Social Camera — allows you to instantly share photos as you click, instantly edit images, and instantly discover popular restaurants and other places.

The J7 Pro features Samsung’s own Exynos 7870 Octa system-on-a-chip, 3GB of RAM, a Super AMOLED screen measured at 5.5 inches, a 3,600mAh battery, and Android Nougat. Compare those with the F3’s Mediatek MT6750T chipset, 4GB of RAM, a display that also measures 5.5 inches but is using IPS or in-plane switching technology, a 3,200mAh battery, and Android Marshmallow. It would be interesting to see these two smartphones slug it out in the market.
